Position Overview
We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for locum tenens coverage in the Cardiovascular ICU. This role supports a high-acuity post-operative cardiac population and involves working closely with three CV ICU surgeons and interdisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage ventilators, vasopressors/inotropes, arrhythmias, and medications
- Handle VV/VA ECMO, IABP, Impella, VADs, and post-transplant patients
- Perform procedures including:
- Central and arterial line insertion/removal
- Intubation/extubation
- Chest tube removal (insertion optional)
- Pacing wire and sternotomy site management
- Daily rounding with surgeons, charge RNs, and nursing staff
- Maintain a census of 8+ patients
- Function independently with some team-based support
Requirements
- NP or PA with 1+ year experience in CV ICU
- Active Illinois license
- DEA and IL CSR
- ACLS and BLS certifications
Additional Information
- 12-Hour Shifts (6:30 AM 7:00 PM)
- 10 Shifts/Month
- EMR: Epic
- No call required
- Will work solo or with another APP as volume requires
- Temporary privileges available for expedited onboarding
- 60-day average credentialing timeframe
