The United States Border Patrol (USBP) is the mobile, uniformed law enforcement arm of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), responsible for securing U.S. borders between ports of entry. The USBP Program Management Office Directorate (PMOD) manages the acquisition and operations of capabilities, technologies, and services to support the USBP mission. USBP has multiple Network Operations Centers/Security Operations Centers across the continental U.S. and requires Network Engineering expertise at the headquarters level to provide acquisition and operational technical support. Network engineers will collaborate with other engineers and subject matter experts to support the program management office (PMO), which develops programs of record (PORs) and oversees the deployment of border protection technologies and systems. Responsibilities include program planning, market research, trade studies, requirements definition, engineering analysis, IT technical design, decision support, and program execution. Candidates will apply systems engineering principles, ensuring DHS and CBP policies are followed and objectives are achieved. Role and Responsibilities NOC: Understanding of circuit types and bandwidth requirements Knowledge of network topologies Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems Understanding network device types such as firewalls, routers, switches, and WAN optimizers Ability to interpret and assist with network design diagrams Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate with technical staff and support program needs Knowledge of VRF, VPNs, and network security capabilities SOC: Understanding of system Assessment and Authorization (A&A) requirements Experience with vulnerability scanning and security findings resolution Collaboration with the ISSO on security assessments and POA&Ms Knowledge of penetration testing activities and documentation Understanding of STIGs, software patching, and continuous monitoring Qualifications and Education 10+ years of relevant experience with a BS in STEM or 5 years with an MS in network/computer engineering Familiarity with DHS or DoD Acquisition Lifecycle Framework Experience in requirements analysis, engineering plans, trade studies, and decision papers Strong technical and soft skills Cisco CCNA and CISSP certifications preferred Additional Notes U.S. Citizenship required for eligibility to acquire CBP BI Active CBP BI highly preferred Travel within the U.S. required Benefits and Company Info Our employees support critical national security programs and enjoy benefits like PTO, holidays, flexible schedules, 401k match, bonuses, ESOP, tuition reimbursement, and health insurance options.
