Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO. Position Overview: The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations. This position is for a Principal Software Engineer on the C2BMC-Global program. Primarily responsible for software development using Java. Essential Functions: Work independently or with a small group in a dynamic environment. Provide in-depth analysis and technical support of a large, distributed system written in Java. Perform complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, integration, and user support for a large code baseline. Follow specifications to develop or modify functionality within the code. Assist with design, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation. Interface with other system support groups to resolve problems and improve system efficiency. Design, code, test, and implement automation tools. Experience working as part of an Agile team. Familiarity with Java Spring. Knowledge of server-side development and message passing. Experience developing enterprise applications. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline preferred and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's degree and 3 years of related experience, or 1 year with a PhD, or 9 years of related experience in lieu of a degree. Current active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application. Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs. Java experience. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment. Knowledge of software practices and coding standards. Strong problem-solving skills. Experience developing in a Unix/Linux environment. Command and control system application development experience. Experience with message translation software. Automated test and pipeline development experience. Experience developing software for Unix , Linux , and Windows . Experience with Software Integration testing. Experience with Risk Management Framework / STIG / Fortify mitigation . Experience designing and developing microservices and deploying with containers. Familiarity with containerization tools such as Docker/Kubernetes . Use of common software development and management tools such as Git , Nexus , JIRA , Confluence , Maven , Gradle , and Eclipse . Preferred Qualifications: Current and active TS/SCI is highly desired. Good working knowledge of MS Office products. Flexibility and willingness to take on unanticipated tasks. Understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and UML diagrams . Experience with RHEL .
