Clearance Requirement: Candidates must possess and maintain at least an active Secret clearance; Top Secret clearance is preferred, or the ability to obtain one Work Location: Lorton, VA - This position may require occasional travel to State Annexes within the DMV area Work Schedule: Requires five (5) days onsite at the customer's facility Position Overview: One of our Department of State contracts is seeking an Intermediate Network Engineer to support a dynamic lab environment. This role involves managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the lab's networking infrastructure, supporting both test and development environments. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in network protocols and hardware, flexibility to support related IT tasks, and experience in a hybrid (physical and virtual) lab setup. This position requires a well-rounded technical professional who is comfortable working beyond traditional networking tasks-including virtual machine provisioning (on-premises and cloud), understanding Active Directory fundamentals, and supporting lab users in a fast-moving, mission-driven environment. Requirements Configure, deploy, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless devices in a secure lab environment Support LAN/WAN infrastructure across isolated lab networks and virtualized systems Assist in the design and documentation of network topologies for lab use cases (test, development, simulation) Monitor network performance, implement changes, and proactively address bottlenecks or vulnerabilities Collaborate with systems engineers and lab managers to support cross-domain connectivity and firewall rules Maintain accurate network documentation, including diagrams, IP schemas, and device configurations Implement access control and segmentation across lab VLANs/subnets as required Provide cross-functional support as needed, including VM creation and management using VMware (vSphere) and Azure Assist in Active Directory-related tasks, such as computer object management, basic GPO understanding, and account/network permissions Support lab users in network troubleshooting, connectivity issues, and provisioning new systems Participate in lab change control and asset tracking procedures Demonstrate flexibility by assisting with tasks outside core networking scope, including lab system builds and general infrastructure support Required Qualifications Candidate must be a United States Citizen and present proof of Citizenship, if selected 3-5 years of hands-on experience in network engineering Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and firewalls Experience with Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, or FortiGate hardware and configurations Familiarity with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark, PRTG) Comfortable working in both virtualized and physical environments Solid understanding of Active Directory structure and how it integrates with networking Experience provisioning or managing virtual machines using VMware or Azure Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills Solid documentation and communication abilities Bonus Qualifications Cisco CCNA or equivalent certification (CCNP a plus) Experience in lab or test/development environments Exposure to VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization platforms Familiarity with STIGs, NIST 800-53, or other security frameworks Scripting or automation skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python) Experience supporting air-gapped or segmented networks Company Benefits: We take care of your well-being here at ZenPoint Solutions!
