Employment Type: Full-Time onsite Report To: Township Administrator About the Role: New Trier Township is seeking a motivated and community-focused Director of Outreach and Communications to lead our efforts in connecting with residents, promoting township services, and strengthening public engagement. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a public service environment and is passionate about building community trust and awareness about social services and government benefits. Key Responsibilities: Executes targeted public information in the forms of articles, event and deadline publicity, website updates, biweekly electronic newsletter (The Dispatch), and triannual paper Newsletter (The Courier), including the Township Annual Report; Writes, formats (with photos) and distributes press releases for media outlets before and after events. Lead township outreach strategies to engage residents and promote awareness of available services. Manage all township communications including newsletters, website updates, social media, and press releases. Serve as the township’s primary point of contact for media and public inquiries. Coordinate and attend community events from start to finish, and represent the township at public events. Support internal departments with communications and outreach materials. Provides administrative office help including issuing taxi coupons, issuing parking placards, Board meeting preparation, ordering office supplies, helping with large projects and processing passports. Organizes and implements outreach events with partners Coordinates press relations and arrange media interviews Assists staff with communication talking points as needed. Work as a team with the rest of the township staff to ensure effective, efficient, empathetic government service. Prepare monthly reports for the Board of Trustees related to communications and outreach efforts to allow effective oversight. Proficiency with social media platforms including scheduling posts and optimizing social media reach, Canva or similar software, and email marketing tools such as Constant Contact. Experience with and knowledge of Microsoft software such as Outlook, Sharepoint, Teams, and Excel. Ability to work independently and strategically, manage multiple projects, and build community relationships. Flexibility to staff outreach events some nights and weekends (majority of work will be during regular work hours). Exceptional interpersonal skills and excitement for social and government services. Familiarity with township operations or community services is a plus. Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a positive and energetic attitude. Ability to relate to individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, developmental, and socioeconomic backgrounds and to work with them in a fair, supportive, and cooperative manner. High School diploma or GED, and Experience in a social media, outreach, communications, or administrative role. Experience in a public sector, township, or nonprofit setting preferred. Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time. Ability to reach, lift, stack, and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up 20 lbs. May use calculators, keyboards, telephone, computers, and other office equipment during the normal workday. Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required to complete some job duties. Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as copy machine, postage machine and computer printer Compensation and Benefits: Compensation : $55,068- $58,346, dependent on experience, overtime exempt administrative role Benefits : The Township pays up to $1,500 a month towards health, Medicare supplement (if eligible must elect Medicare), prescription drug, vision, and/or dental premiums for full-time employees and their dependents (as applicable). Employees are responsible for paying any additional premium costs associated with their selected plans through a payroll deduction. The Township is not responsible for deductibles, copays, or out-of-pocket health care costs. Life insurance is also available to regular, full-time employees upon employment, with premiums paid by the Employee upon election. Full-time employees accrue and receive paid time off at a rate of 2.5 days or 17.4 hours per month. Pre-approved PTO can be used for any reason. Mondays-Fridays: 9 am – 5:00 pm; Occasional attendance at meetings and events on weekends or evenings are expected as this is an outreach role.
