The Senior Accountant is a part of the Accounting and Financial Services (AFS) General Accounting team and will be responsible for recording financial transactions, maintaining the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, performing period closing functions in Oracle, preparing reports and supporting schedules and assisting with audits. This person will work with the General Accounting Manager to supervise, train, guide, support and develop assigned staff and maintain and update proper documentation and process narratives. Responsibilities: Ensure proper accounting of transactions related to fixed assets, general excise tax, leases, and other income/expense allocations in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies for Servco Hawaii operations Prepare and file state general excise tax returns and other tax compliance deliverables on a monthly, annual, and ad-hoc basis Oversee fixed asset accounting functions and review monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting Performs financial review and variance analysis as assigned Provide supervision, work review, training, and development to assigned staff Completes assigned account reconciliations with discrepancies and outstanding items resolved in an accurate and timely manner Create and update process documentation Assist in external and internal audits and special project reviews Provide support services to stakeholders as required Research errors / irregularities in the accounting process under the Senior Accountant’s ownership to fully understand the underlying causes, then identify and recommend potential solutions Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting Minimum three years of senior accountant level work experience with general ledger accounting, period closing, estimates and reserves calculation, account reconciliation, analysis, and financial reporting Diversified and industry experience in retail, manufacturing and automotive and/or work experience with a big-4 national CPA firm preferred CPA preferred Technical accounting knowledge (GAAP) Proficient with Microsoft Office Oracle Financial Cloud and dealer management systems knowledge Strong verbal and written communication skills Analytical thinker with ability to structure and process qualitative or quantitative data and draw insightful conclusions from it Ability to independently and resourcefully seek out ways to find resolution to problems by performing the necessary research to understand the root cause(s) and evaluate various ways that it can be resolved Ability to stay engaged with a critical eye to the details. Ability to have communication and work products be clear and concise. Ability to determine the appropriate level of detail needed in various communications based on audience Ability to know when to take a step back to be able to see how one’s tasks fit into the bigger picture and determines what can be done currently to ensure challenges and issues would be averted downstream in the workflow Ability and innate willingness to be self-motivated to complete the duties that comes with this role.
