Job Overview: The Level 1 Technician will provide technical support to staff and students under the supervision of the IT Director, ensuring the smooth operation and support of all school technology systems and equipment. The position involves troubleshooting, maintenance, and basic repairs of hardware, software, and network systems. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a passion for technology, and the ability to work in a fast-paced educational environment. Additionally, this role will involve coordinating with vendors for equipment procurement, warranty support, and service agreements.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical support:
Provide front-line support for teachers, staff, and students with hardware, software, Active Directory, online services and network issues. Troubleshooting:
Diagnose and resolve technical problems with printers/copiers, laptops, desktops, tablets, and network devices. Hardware and software maintenance:
Install, configure, and maintain computers, peripherals, and software applications. User assistance:
Assist staff and students with software updates, application installations, and other technology needs. Networking:
Help with the setup and basic troubleshooting of network systems, including Wi-Fi, printers, and shared resources. Inventory management:
Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all IT-related equipment, including computers, printers, and other devices. Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of support requests, issues, and resolutions in a ticketing system. Collaboration:
Work closely with the IT team and vendors to escalate and resolve complex technical issues and contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives. Training:
Assist in training staff and students on proper use of technology resources. System updates and patches:
Ensure that computers and network connected devices are regularly updated with the latest operating system, BIOS, software and EDR definitions. Vendor coordination:
Work with vendors to procure new equipment and supplies, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and manage timely delivery. Warranty and service support:
Communicate with vendors for warranty claims, repair services, and replacement of defective equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and proper documentation of all interactions. Vendor relationship management:
Build and maintain positive working relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure optimal support and cost savings.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree in Information Technology or related field preferred. Basic understanding of and experience with computer hardware, software, and network systems. Experience with troubleshooting and supporting common operating systems (Windows, macOS, Chrome OS). Experience with basic networking concepts, including Wi-Fi and network troubleshooting. Familiarity with client-side security strategies such as proxy, firewall, EDR, and user training. Strong problem-solving skills with a customer service-oriented attitude. Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in a school or educational setting. Experience with cloud-based platforms such as Google Workspace. Experience with of IT ticketing, inventory management, and documentation. Experience managing vendor relationships and coordinating with external suppliers.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs of equipment. Ability to sit or stand for long periods while troubleshooting or working at a computer.
Working Conditions:
School environment, typically Monday through Thursday, with occasional extended hours for special projects or emergencies. Travel between campus locations will be required.
