Job Title: Principal Network Engineer Location: Remote (Eastern and Central Time Zones Only) - Must be open to travel and not homebound Salary Range: $150,000 Introduction We are seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Principal Network Engineer to lead the modernization of a growing technology organization's network infrastructure. This individual will play a key role in both designing and deploying high-performance, secure, and scalable network solutions across hybrid cloud and on-premise environments. Ideal candidates will bring a deep engineering mindset, thrive in high-stakes environments, and enjoy both thought leadership and hands-on implementation. Required Skills & Qualifications
10+ years of experience in enterprise-level system/network design and support 10+ years of experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) 5+ years of experience in a technical lead or architect role Expert-level proficiency with Palo Alto Firewalls and Panorama Expert-level experience with Juniper switching and routing products Strong EVPN and VXLAN design & implementation experience Proficiency in OSPF and BGP routing protocols Strong experience with VPN technologies, including IPSec High and low-level design experience with documentation for production use Proficiency with both Windows Server and Linux operating systems Scripting experience with Bash, PowerShell, Perl, or Python Strong project leadership skills and ability to mentor others Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation (every 4-7 weeks) Preferred Skills & Qualifications
Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible and Terraform Familiarity with enterprise wireless technologies (Juniper preferred) Understanding of network security concepts including ACLs, 802.1x, and NAC Experience with authentication technologies such as LDAP, Active Directory, and RADIUS Experience with disaster recovery planning and network monitoring tools Relevant certifications: PCNSA, PCNSE, JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP, JNCIE, CCSP, ITIL Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Provide senior leadership on all network and systems design and standards initiatives Design, implement, and manage complex infrastructure solutions with a focus on performance, security, and availability Lead projects that involve both legacy and modern infrastructure across hybrid cloud environments Own the end-to-end lifecycle of infrastructure components, including capacity planning, upgrades, and risk management Collaborate with Engineering, DevOps, Security, and other cross-functional teams to drive architectural consistency Maintain high availability across network and systems environments Recommend and implement emerging technologies and practices to enhance infrastructure Establish and maintain policies, documentation, and disaster recovery plans Conduct system/network assessments and assist with InfoSec audits Develop and communicate technical bulletins and reports for leadership teams Mentor junior team members and provide technical oversight Champion adherence to change management and configuration control processes Company Benefits & Culture
