Why does the job exist?
New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) is responsible for the collection, storage, and reporting of PreK-12 education data for the State of New Mexico. The purpose of the Database Administrator II position is to ensure that NMPED maintains a healthy and sophisticated IT database environment. The incumbent will utilize their expertise to ensure secure high quality and efficient database performance across NMPEDs Federal Programming databases, including but not limited to those utilized with Title I and Title IV.
How does it get done?
Maintenance of Database Environment -Works with Database Administrators and Application Developers -Installs upgrades the database server and application tools -Supports application developers by modifying database structure as needed -Supports the database system by allocating and planning for system storage -Enrolls users and maintains system security -Controls and monitors user access to databases -Monitors and Optimizes the performance of the databases -Plans for backup and recovery of database information -Maintains archived data -Backing up and restoring databases -Ensures compliance with vendor licensing -Provides technical support -Design databases to support application developers -Report development by querying databases -Managing and monitoring data replication -Troubleshoots bugs and errors as needed. -Updates job knowledge by studying state of the art database tools, replication techniques and optimization methods, participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks, participating in professional organizations.

Ideal Candidate
The Ideal Candidate will have experience in SQL Server Administration, Proficient in SQL, Stored procedures, Database Backup and Disaster Recovery
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in data analysis, design, storage, and security. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
