Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
School-Based (General or 1:1 Support)
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) supports students in achieving their educational goals by assisting with the implementation of occupational therapy services in a school setting. This role may involve working with students across classrooms or providing 1:1 support to a student with specific needs. Under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, the COTA helps students develop or regain skills necessary for participation in academic and daily activities. Services are delivered in accordance with the COTA scope of practice and in compliance with applicable state and educational regulations. Key Responsibilities: Assist in the implementation of individualized occupational therapy plans Support students in developing fine motor, sensory processing, and self-care skills Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and school staff to integrate therapy into the classroom Monitor student progress and document observations Adapt activities and materials to meet student needs Promote student independence and participation in school routines Maintain accurate records and follow therapy protocols Communicate effectively with students, families, and team members Minimum Requirements: Current certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) Licensure in the state of practice, if required One year of experience in a pediatric or school-based setting preferred Current CPR certification (if applicable) TB screening (questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray as required) Current health certificate (per contract or state regulation) Compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations Must be at least 18 years of age Adherence to professional standards of practice At Amergis, we firmly believe that our employees are the heartbeat of our organization and we are happy to offer the following benefits: Competitive pay & weekly paychecks Health, dental, vision, and life insurance 401(k) savings plan Awards and recognition programs Supportive school environment *Benefit eligibility is dependent on employment status.
