Elementary School Nurse
Position Title: Elementary School Nurse Contract: 9 months (190 days) Qualifications: Must possess a current, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse (including ASN, ADN, BSN, MSN, DNP) or a Licensed Practical Nurse from the Alabama Board of Nursing Current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification Minimum of one year prior nursing experience preferred Experience with the pediatric population preferred Reports To: Elementary School Principal and Head of School Job Goals: To serve as a wellness provider by treating students for medical issues, help prevent physical issues and disease, and coordinate routine health assessments. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Performance Responsibilities: Provide healthcare to students Coordinate vision, hearing, and orthopedic screenings and health assessments Write referrals for health services Develop and monitor health plans for students Maintain a safe, clean, and confidential Health Room Promote programs on health-education and immunization Maintain clinical records and medications Use technical devices and tools, especially the Student Information System, effectively Coordinate vision, hearing, and orthopedic screenings and health assessments Provide emergency aid to students and school staff Assist teachers in instructing students in health and nutrition education Arrange for health coverage for student field trips as needed Assess the overall condition of an injured or ill child and take appropriate action, providing skillful management of childhood emergencies until additional assistance is available Communicate clearly, concisely, and timely with parents, students, colleagues, and supporting healthcare professionals using the most appropriate mode of communication Required Skills and Abilities: Problem solving, particularly Analysis of situations Effective interpersonal skills Working collaboratively and independently as needed Exercise good judgment Employ good decision-making skills Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer Prolonged periods of standing, reaching, and bending Walking on level grounds, halls, and stairwells Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times Attire: Appropriate attire for the nursing profession
