The Director of Nursing assures evaluation of outcomes that promote high quality practice delivery in assigned patient areas. The Director of Nursing provides leadership in the delivery of care and nursing practice both in the clinical unit and the organization. The Director of Nursing interacts with staff, and contributes to the professional development of the leadership team in her areas of responsibility, leadership peers, and other colleagues. The Director of Nursing collaborates as needed with all levels of nursing staff, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders in relation to the delivery of quality care. The Director of Nursing acts as an advocate for the protections and rights of individuals, families, communities, populations, healthcare providers, nursing, other professions, institutions, and organizations, especially related to health and safety. The Director of Nursing accepts organizational accountability for services provided to recipients in their assigned areas and participates in planning the success of patient experience and outstanding customer service activities. The Director of Nursing promotes a learning environment that is open, respectful, and promotes the sharing of expertise to promote the benefits of health outcomes. The Director of Nursing develops both unit activities that support the elements of extending excellence. Is knowledge of and adheres to the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan, the ANA Code of Ethics, the ANA Scope and Standard for Nursing Practice, State Board of Nursing Practice Act, the AONE Nurse Executive Competencies, and the rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. In addition, the Director of Nursing actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Assures organizational clinical policies and procedures are reviewed and updated in accordance with evidence based practice. * Assesses and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of health care delivered to assigned patient population * Maintain knowledge of current nursing practice and the roles and functions of patient care team members. Leadership Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Possesses the critical thinking skills necessary to address ideas, beliefs, or viewpoints of others and lead others in the appropriate direction. Assures overall staffing is effective, efficient, and promotes the delivery of quality care. Assures that staff is representative of the population diversity though oversight of recruitment, selection, and retention of personnel. * Assures there is appropriate orientation for new staff and appropriate methodologies for ongoing competency assessment of seasoned staff. Monitors timely completion of performance evaluations, sets goals and provides feedback and counseling to employees. * Coordinates nursing care with other healthcare disciplines, and assists in integrating services across the continuum of health care. Rounds with intention on the nursing units, engaging staff and leading out in maintaining an environment of safety. * Assesses plans in order to address issues such as; ethnic, cultural, and diversity changes in the population; political and social influences; financial and economic issues; aging of society and demographic trends; ethical issues; and, environmental influences on health. * Nursing leadership resource for Nurse Managers and team to achieve nursing specific and hospital overall goals and accountabilities. Develop and Mentor/Professionalism Is able to identify, develop, and mentor others in order for them to meet their fullest potential at the organization. Maintains a high level of professionalism in order to be seen as a role model for the nursing staff. * Facilitates educational experiences for nursing and other students * Provides direct mentoring for all NMs assigned to their area and any high potential ANMs identified. Coaches others in developing personal career plans. * Participates in teaching opportunities throughout the organization. * Acts as a lead or sponsor in process improvement opportunities within the organization (beyond unit scope). * Chairs committees at the campus or system level and encourages staff involvement in hospital based committees. * Promotes nursing management as a desirable specialty and assures there is a succession plan for his/her own position. Actively mentors others into the leadership role. * Values feedback and is a proponent of lifelong learning. Knowledge of Regulatory/Professional Standards Demonstrates an organizational knowledge of all regulatory and professional standards that effect the operations of their areas of responsibility. * Accountable for assuring compliance and provides evidence of performance with DNV and other regulatory requirements to operate nursing licensed beds. * Participates in nursing practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities, Nursing Sensitive Care (NSC) performance measures. Accurately documents and monitors activities from data received * Operationalizes and assures compliance with CMS, OSHA, CDC and Patient Safety regulations at the service line level * Adheres to applicable practice standards that relate to their area of specialty.
