Description
The School RN is responsible for providing clinical nursing supports and coordination of all medical services for students attending the Amego School Program. The School RN assists the Director of Healthcare Services and Executive Vice President of Children's Services in the daily operation of the School Program and completes all necessary documentation pursuant to the DESE, DEEC, DPH, and DCF regulatory requirements.
The School RN is responsible for the development, implementation and supervision of all systems involving medication administration for the Amego School. The School RN will maintain all required credentialing as a School Nurse in Massachusetts and will assist in the oversite of the MA Medication Delegation Program. The School RN will assist in training staff in medication administration, unique student medical needs, and basic health and medical trainings and will maintain documentation of those trainings.
Primary Responsibilities Include: Actively participates in efforts to enhance the social, economic, and cultural and health/safety needs of the students Amego School serves. Ensure the promotion of Amego's name and image within the community. Assists the Director of Healthcare Services to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards and ensure appropriate response to accrediting agencies and funding sources. Assists in being the point person for medical issues during licensing reviews and residential openings as directed.
Administration and Agency and Staff Development: Carry out the Agency's mission by implementing the policies established by Senior Management and the Board of Directors. Seek and use training opportunities and engage in self-evaluation to develop and meet professional goals. Ensure that all services adhere to Amego's Human Rights Policies. Work with QA Department in maintaining quality assurance program for health care services, delivery and documentation. Provide training and education to staff and students in relevant health care areas, including MA Medication Delegation Program, unique healthcare needs of students, Safety, Universal Precautions, and others as requested by the Vice President of Children's Services, Director of Healthcare Services, or other regulatory requirements. Provide supervision to staff on health and medical services and medication delegation and function as medical liaison for all students. Interpret medical information for staff and advise program staff of medical issues that may impact on a student's school participation. Ensure all medication/treatment orders, medications and labels are current and meet all regulatory requirements. Follow all regulatory requirements re: medication administration, security and storage. Participate in students IEP (Individual Education Plan) and other team meetings, as requested. Effectively communicate with state agency personnel, other service professionals, family members, guardians, etc. Reinforce a team approach, set clear expectations, provide feedback, communication and support to staff and students. Meet with the Director of Healthcare Services and/or Vice President of Children's Services regularly to address program, staff or student issues, as well as reviewing policy and procedure recommendations as it pertains to your department. Provide technical support for school operations. Maintains status as a MA School Nurse under the DPH Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration (MCSR) Medication Delegation. Assist the Director of Healthcare Services to ensure the Agency adheres to all MA school regulatory requirements. Participates in On-Call responsibilities to ensure proper medical coverage for nights and weekends. This will include On- Call rotations.
Healthcare Responsibilities: Oversee health care services for all students in the school program including medication and treatment administration per the current orders. Coordinate medical services with each student's primary physician and any specialists. Provide on-site medical assessment and treatment of students as needed. Assist the Director of Health Care Services and Residential Nurse in coordinating the medical care for all students residing within Amego supervised residential sites. Maintain medical records (annual physical exam, dental exam, immunizations, other required documents), health treatment plans, medical consents/authorizations and medication information for each student as it pertains to their IEP. Obtain reports and approval of treatment plans from primary physicians; and ensure that records/documentation meets regulatory requirements. Meet or exceed regulatory requirements for DESE, DCF, DPH as well as DEEC. Update nursing documentation in real time. Provide admission, annual and as needed nursing assessments for all students. Assist the Director of Healthcare Services to design, monitor and modify healthcare policies and procedures as needed Member of inter-disciplinary evaluation team. Participates in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluations and review of each recipient's needs and status. Participate in individual intake, discharge and support planning as needed. Attend ISP/IEPand other relevant meetings/appointments as needed. Provide assessment of students for self-medication. Attend student medical appointments - as requested by the Director of Healthcare Services and/or Vice President of Children's Services. Assist with Psychiatrist/Medication Clinics.
Salary Range: $85k-91.5k yearly

Qualifications
Must be a Registered Nurse. BSN/MSN preferred but may be waived in favor of a strong clinical background.
•Current license to practice in Massachusetts.
•At least two years of nursing experience preferred, experience with severe population preferred.
•Demonstrated clinical skills and knowledge.
•Complete required BU SHIELD medication courses for medication delegation.
•Exceptional organizational skills required.
•Effective communicator, with experience developing decision-making processes and as a facilitator.
•Demonstrated commitment to valuing, nurturing and celebrating diversity within the organization for staff and individuals and belief that cultural competence drives quality.
