Position Summary:
nEntry-level technical role supporting electric distribution design for overhead (OH) and underground (UG) systems. This role works under close supervision to assist in data collection, drafting, and preparation of utility design documentation. Ideal for candidates with basic CAD or GIS skills and an interest in utility engineering.
nnKey Responsibilities
n• Prepare and edit electric distribution design drawings based on field data and engineer input.
n• Assist with design development using AutoCAD, GIS, and proprietary tools.
n• Perform basic field data collection (e.g., pole measurements, photos, GPS logging)
n• Support design teams by updating drawings and entering data into project databases
n• Help assemble permit packages and easement documentation
n• Conduct basic pole loading analysis (training provided).
n• Perform initial self-checks before submitting design to formal QA/QC review.
nnTools & Software
n• AutoCAD, AUD, GIS
n• Google Earth
n• O-Calc, Pole Foreman or equivalent pole loading tool
n• Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
n• Proprietary field data collection & design platform (training provided)
nnField Work Expectations
n• Perform field visits to gather pole measurements, GPS locations, structure conditions
n• Use GPS devices and digital tools for accurate data collection
n• Work is strictly observational — no contact with energized components
n• Field work is observational only, with no contact with energized components.
n• Rental vehicles and PPE/safety equipment will be provided.
nnQualifications
nRequired:
n• High school diploma or GED
n• 1–3 years of experience in a technical, drafting, or construction support role
n• Basic proficiency in CAD or GIS software
n• Willingness to work in both field and office environments
nPreferred:
n• Coursework or certification in drafting, engineering tech, or GIS
n• Prior experience with electric utility or telecom projects
n• Familiarity with field data collection and digital mapping tools

n• Strong technical aptitude and eagerness to learn utility standards
n• Willingness to ask questions and learn utility standards
n• Able to follow procedures and work effectively in a team
