Our client is a leading mass beauty cosmetic brand seeking a strong VP of Marketing based in LA or OC. On site full time in Ontario, CA
The Vice President of Marketing will be a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for building brand equity, driving consumer engagement, build and lead a high- performing team to deliver innovative marketing strategies that support business growth.
This individual will lead the strategic development of brand identity, consumer engagement, marketing innovation, and digital-first initiatives in the highly competitive beauty space for the brand. The ideal candidate is a results-oriented leader with deep beauty industry knowledge, a passion for storytelling, and a track record of building and scaling modern, customer-centric brands.
This role requires a hands-on, creative, and analytical marketer who can drive both brand equity and commercial performance across DTC, retail, and omnichannel platforms.
Responsibilities & Duties
Brand Strategy & Development
• Define and evolve the company's brand vision, positioning, and voice to resonate with core consumer segments.
• Oversee the brands' positioning, creative development, product launches, and
360° campaign execution across all channels - including digital, social, retail, influencer, and traditional- with a focus on Consumer Insights & Innovation
• Maintain consistency of brand identity across digital, print, retail, influencer, and PR channels.
Marketing Leadership
• Create and execute comprehensive and unique marketing strategies that support brand(s) and revenue growth.
• Lead all national and local marketing efforts including product launches, promotions, events, and brand partnerships.
• Align marketing goals with sales and product development to accelerate revenue and category expansion.
Digital & Social Media Oversight
• Direct digital marketing campaigns include SEO, paid media, influencer marketing, email, and CRM.
• Guide content development strategies for web, social media, and owned channels to increase engagement and traffic.
• Optimize performance through analytics, A/B testing, and data-driven insights.
Retail & Channel Marketing
• Develop integrated go-to-market plans for retail partners (Ulta, Target, CVS, Walmart, dollar stores etc.).
• Support sell-in and sell-through strategies with strong merchandising and promotional support.
• Collaborate with sales teams to ensure alignment between marketing and retail execution.
• Monitor consumer trends, competitive activity, and category shifts to guide marketing strategies.
• Leverage data, research, and feedback to create innovative, consumer-led campaigns and brand initiatives.
• Identify whitespace opportunities and contribute to product pipeline planning.
Budgeting & Resource Management
• Own the annual marketing budget, ensuring efficient spending and maximizing ROI across channels.
• Manage external partners including agencies, consultants, and freelancers.
Brand Protection & Reputation
• Act as brand guardian(s), ensuring consistency with brand standards and tone across all platforms.
• Monitor and address to brand sentiment, PR risks, and reputation concerns.
Team Leadership & Development
• Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team across brand, digital, content, and creative functions.
• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-energy marketing culture focused on innovation and results.
Essential Functions
1. Brand Strategy & Development
• Define and execute a long-term brand vision and strategy aligned with company goals.
• Lead brand positioning, messaging architecture, and product storytelling.
• Ensure brand consistency across all platforms and touchpoints.
2. Marketing Campaigns & Execution
• Develop and oversee integrated marketing campaigns that drive awareness, consideration, and loyalty.
• Partner with creative, digital, and product teams to deliver compelling omni-channel experiences.
3. Consumer & Market Insights
• Analyze market trends, category dynamics, and consumer behavior to inform strategy.
• Lead research initiatives including focus groups, surveys, and competitive benchmarking.
4. Digital & Social Media Leadership
• Oversee digital performance marketing, influencer strategies, and content development.
• Monitor engagement metrics and continuously optimize strategies to increase reach and conversion.
5. Innovation & Retail Commerce
• Partner with product and sales teams to launch new products and drive sell-through in retail and e-commerce.
• Lead go-to-market planning and promotional strategies for key retail partners.
6. Budget Management
• Develop and manage the annual marketing budget, ensuring smart spend allocation and performance tracking.
• Negotiate and oversee agency and vendor contracts.
7. Brand Protection & Governance
• Safeguard brand integrity and proactively manage reputation across all consumer and trade-facing platforms.
• Establish clear brand guidelines and internal training for brand stewardship.
8. Leadership & Team Development
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing marketing team.
• Foster a culture of creativity, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration.
Knowledge, Skill and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field; MBA preferred.
Minimum Experience required:
• 10+ years of progressive marketing experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
Skills Required:
• Proven track record of building strong beauty/lifestyle brands and executing marketing strategies that drive growth.
• Expertise in DTC and retail marketing, with experience working with major retailers like Target, Ulta, and Walmart.
• Experience working with mass, drug, specialty, and e-commerce retailers.
• Deep understanding of the beauty consumer across demographics, behaviors, and motivations.
• Demonstrated experience leading digital, influencer, and content marketing programs.
• Proven success building and executing brand and marketing strategies in retail, beauty, or consumer-facing industries.
• Deep knowledge of consumer behavior, market trends, and digital marketing platforms.
• Strong analytical, creative, and strategic thinking abilities.
• Experience managing multimillion-dollar marketing budgets and agency/vendor relationships.
• Strong strategic thinking and creative vision.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Analytical mindset with experience using data and KPIs to inform decisions.
• Proficient in marketing technology platforms (CRM, e-commerce, social analytics, etc.)
• Proven success in leading marketing for multiple brands or product lines.

• Strong network of beauty industry contacts and influencer/agency relationships.
