The Food Prep Worker assists in the preparation and portioning of meals for residents in accordance with prescribed dietary requirements and food safety guidelines. This position plays a key role in ensuring residents receive nutritious, attractive, and properly portioned meals in a timely manner. Weekend and holiday coverage a MUST.
Responsibilities:

  • Assist cooks in preparing meals, including chopping vegetables, preparing salads, desserts, and other side items
  • Portion and plate meals according to resident diet orders and facility guidelines
  • Set up meal trays and ensure accuracy of dietary specifications (e.g., pureed, low-sodium, diabetic)
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of food prep areas, kitchen equipment, and refrigerators
  • Label and store food items properly to prevent spoilage and cross-contamination
  • Assist with receiving and storing deliveries
  • Follow infection control procedures and all health department regulations
  • Support kitchen cleanup including dishwashing, sweeping, and mopping as needed
  • Communicate with dietary team members and nursing staff to ensure resident needs are met
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dietary Manager or Cook
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in food service, healthcare, or a nursing home setting is a plus
  • Basic understanding of nutrition, portion control, and special diets preferred
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and stand for extended periods
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team
  • ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain is a plus
