Job Title
Summary: Under direct supervision, reads County water, or steam consumption meters and records volume used by residential and commercial consumers by performing the following duties. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Include The Following. Other Related Duties May Be Assigned: 75% Walks or drives truck over established route and takes readings of meter dials. Performs meter installation, repair and replacements of water meters, water lines and distribution center. Inspects meters and connections for defects, damage, and unauthorized connections. Indicates irregularities on forms for necessary action by servicing department. Inspects hydrants and water lines. Performs installation of water meter remotes and meter interfacing units along with any and all wiring required. 15% Verifies readings to locate abnormal consumption and records reasons for fluctuations. Turns service off for nonpayment of charges in vacant premises, or on for new occupants. Returns meter readings or information to business office for billing purposes. May answer customer calls while in office. 10% Prepares or assigns work orders for maintenance crews and meter readers; schedules work orders (e.g., turn on's, turn off's, general service) as needed. Maintains vehicles equipment boxes with tools and materials for service work. Makes bank runs for the department and other courier service, maintains vehicles and tracks vehicle service record. Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages "4" non-supervisory employees in Water Operations. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. and to draw and interpret bar graph. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
