The following duties are required of the position; they include, but are not limited to:
The candidate will spend time as attending on the Hematology/Oncology inpatient consult service; providing consultative support to all inpatient services and serve as oncology/hematology attending on call for the consult service.
- Outpatient and inpatient duties include:
- The candidate physician will see patients in the continuity clinics and new referrals of patients to the hematology/oncology outpatient clinics.
- The candidate may serve as the primary physician for patients with active cancer or hematologic disease.
- Supervision of inpatient as well as outpatient chemotherapy and infusion procedures.
- Perform bone marrow aspirates and biopsies and participate in oncology conferences.
- Supervise hematology/oncology fellows from Kansas University Medical Center.
- The Kansas City Oncology Department has an active clinical trials program. Academic opportunities include:
- Serving as principal investigator of clinical trials through SWOG, the GU-NPOP program, and drug company sponsored clinical trials.
- Oversight of regulatory requirements and compliances with IRB regulation in human research.
- The position can include a major role in the clinical research, administrative, and educational programs of the Hematology/Oncology Section for interested candidates.
- The candidate physician has the option of affiliation or voluntary appointment with the University of Kansas Medical Center. Administrative Duties include:
- The physician will participate in quality improvement initiatives within the division and be part of the oncology department's cancer committee.
- Serving on hospital and University-affiliated committees.
