Senior Director - Platform Engineering - Reliability

Salesforce's Availability and Infrastructure Engineering organization is seeking a visionary Sr. Director of Software Engineering to lead a global team focused on advancing our platforms and operational frameworks. This role drives the strategy, architecture, and execution of solutions that automate operations, build robust SRE tooling, leverage AI for operational intelligence, and enhance observability across our vast service ecosystem. You'll be a strategic leader and hands-on technical expert, directly impacting the reliability, performance, and efficiency of Salesforce's critical services.
Your Impact:

• Drive execution and delivery of software engineering platforms, collaborating with cross-functional teams, architects, and product owners.
• Make critical product decisions and proactively resolve issues.
• Partner with Scrum Leads to align on objectives, priorities, and risks.
• Ensure clear priorities and adequate resources for teams.
• Provide technical guidance, career development, and mentoring to team members.
• Contribute to development tasks to assist with release commitments and maintain technical skills.
• Advocate for technical excellence and maintain a high-performing culture.
  

Required Skills

• 10+ years experience in cloud-scale architectures, software development, PaaS, and IaaS (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Experience leading large-scale distributed systems, microservices, and/or distributed architecture.
• 5+ years of management experience, including leading leaders and managers.
• Proven ability to hire, mentor, and lead engineers and managers.
• Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, and time management skills.
• Flexible, proactive, and comfortable with minimal specifications.
• Experience with short release cycles, full SDLC, and publicly released products.
• Proficiency in software engineering best practices: coding standards, code reviews, CI/CD, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Experience with Agile development methodologies; Scrum Master experience required.
• Ability to communicate requirements with users, technical teams, and product management.
• Experience influencing architectural vision and roadmap with other architects and CTOs.
• Ability to deliver technical reports and presentations.
• Rapidly learn new technologies and possess strong presentation, communication, and facilitation skills.
• Technical degree required.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as an Architect, driving strategy for organizational transformation in a matrixed organization.
• Experience with Salesforce and its primary products (Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Commerce Cloud).
• SaaS/PaaS-based core services/infrastructure product development experience.
• Master's degree.
