The unit has a total of 9 beds and is staffed with 2 RNs during the day shift and 2 RNs during the night shift. The patient ratio is 4:1. Key equipment utilized includes a Lucas Device, nurse-run lab, ventilator, CPAP/BiPAP, Blanketrol, and Lifepack 15. The electronic medical record system used is Meditech. Candidates should have experience working in a Freestanding ER and possess a paramedic license or certification. Familiarity with running lab equipment such as Picolo, Istat, Triage Meter, ID Now, and Clinitek is preferred. Typical procedures performed in the unit include chest tube placement, intubations, conscious sedation, wound repair, splinting using Orthoglass, nebulizer treatment, and ventilator management. The best personality fit for this role will be someone who can work within a small crew, practice team nursing, and manage high acuity patients with limited staff until transfer is possible. Candidates must be willing to work at least 2 weekend shifts every 2 weeks.
