ABOUT THE ROLE:

CAIR-CA is recruiting for a Human Resources Coordinator. This position plays a key role in supporting HR administrative functions. This includes coordinating the recruitment and onboarding process, overseeing employee leaves and accommodation, assisting with employee HR inquiries, and ensuring compliance with HR policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruitment & Onboarding

Coordinate and standardize end-to-end recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes. Post job openings and collaborate with the Communications team to support recruitment through social media. Support recruitment initiatives, including outreach to local communities and colleges. Pre-screen applicants, conduct screening reviews, schedule interviews, verify references, and prepare job offers. Support hiring managers through the recruitment process, ensuring consistency and compliance with policies and best practices. Maintain job requisitions and up-to-date job descriptions for all positions. Support pre-employment processes such as background checks and educational verifications.

Employee Relations & Compliance

Ensure personnel policies, postings, and procedures are compliant. Support with monitoring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (e.g., I-9s, IIPP, Workplace Violence Prevention Program, required postings). Support with coordinating administrative tasks related to employee relations, including interview scheduling.

Records, Leaves, & Benefits

Maintain accurate and up-to-date personnel records in compliance with legal requirements and internal policies. Coordinate the administration of leaves of absence, accommodation requests, and workers' compensation claims. Assist with responding to employee questions related to HR policies, benefits, and procedures.

Training, Development & Culture

Coordinate and support training development and delivery on workplace policies, compliance, and professional development Support employee wellness, safety, and engagement initiatives.

Leadership & Department Support

Coordinate implementation of HR strategies that align with the organization's workforce planning, recruitment, and talent development goals. Support HR team members, interns, and volunteers as assigned.

Continuous Improvement

Stay informed about HR best practices, legal updates, and emerging tools or technology. Contribute to development and continuous improvements in HR systems, processes, and service delivery.

Required Qualifications

Minimum three (3) years of professional experience in human resources or a related administrative role Experience with full-cycle recruitment, including sourcing candidates, screening applications, and coordinating the interview and selection process. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems, recruiting platforms and job boards Proven ability to coordinate onboarding logistics Understanding of onboarding/off-boarding and compliance-related documentation Basic knowledge of employee benefits Proficiency in maintaining HRIS data accuracy Detail-oriented with good organizational skills for documentation and follow-ups Knowledge of labor laws and HR compliance standards Ability to maintain employee records in compliance with legal requirements Strong interpersonal and written communication skills Ability to coordinate with multiple departments and work collaboratively Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) Comfort with digital HR tools and platforms Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and records Deep commitment to CAIR-CA's mission to defend civil rights and build community power, with comfort supporting HR functions in a mission-driven, culturally diverse, and engaged workplace

Preferred Qualifications

SHRM-CP, PHR, or a degree in Human Resources or a related field Understanding of HR in a nonprofit setting for culturally diverse workplace Interest or experience in improving HR processes and employee experience Familiarity with federal and California employment laws
