Compensation: $95k minimum, negotiable DOQ Benefits: Fully paid medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, paid holidays Status: FT, exempt Reports to: Tribal Council Duty Station: Portland OR; Ability to travel to North Idaho essential. The Government Finance Director ensures the financial integrity of the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho by overseeing financial operations, maintaining compliance with funding requirements, and supporting strategic planning and fiscal accountability. This role requires strong leadership and a deep understanding of governmental fund accounting within a tribal government setting. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: · Lead and supervise the Finance Department to ensure efficient, compliant, and transparent financial operations. · Collaborate with Tribal leadership and department managers to develop, implement, and monitor budgets and financial policies. · Maintain effective relationships with funding agencies, auditors, banks, and vendors. · Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and oversight of audits, grants, and indirect cost proposals. · Contribute to strategic planning and risk management, including evaluation of economic development opportunities. · Support a culture of continuous improvement, training, and adaptability within the Finance team. QUALIFICATIONS: · Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA preferred. · At least five years of progressive management experience in financial oversight, with three years in governmental fund accounting (tribal government experience strongly preferred). · Strong knowledge of GAAP, federal grant regulations, and OMB guidance. · Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. · Ability to navigate complexity, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing requirements.
