Full-Time | Exempt About the role We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented

Accounting Manager

to lead and manage the full spectrum of accounting operations at our mission-driven nonprofit organization. This role is pivotal in maintaining the financial integrity of the organization, ensuring compliance, and supporting data-driven decision-making. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Accounting Manager will oversee financial reporting, budgeting, grant and fund accounting, audit preparation, and supervise accounting staff. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone with a deep understanding of nonprofit accounting and a passion for community impact. What you'll do The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Oversee daily accounting operations including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and reconciliations Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports in compliance with GAAP and nonprofit standards Lead the annual budget process, collaborate on programmatic budgets, and support ongoing forecasting and variance analysis Monitor, track, and report on grant-related expenses ensuring compliance with funder requirements and OMB Uniform Guidance Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of growth, accountability, and professional development Maintain compliance with financial policies, internal controls, and local/state/federal nonprofit regulations Manage year-end audit, Form 990 preparation, and all other audit-related documentation Implement and refine systems, workflows, and tools to support efficient and accurate accounting operations Provide strategic financial insight to the CFO and leadership to support cross-functional decision-making Other duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or Master’s degree strongly preferred) 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years in a nonprofit leadership or managerial role Extensive experience with nonprofit fund accounting, GAAP, and FASB standards Demonstrated experience in grant management, compliance, and reporting Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar accounting software and Excel (pivot tables, formulas, lookups) Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with acute attention to detail Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of supporting mission-driven teams Additional Preferred Experience Experience with federal and state grants, OMB Uniform Guidance, and restricted fund tracking Previous work in a small to mid-sized nonprofit organization Knowledge of audit preparation, risk management, and internal controls Demonstrated initiative in improving financial processes and systems Success in this role looks like T imely, accurate financial reports that support transparency and mission alignment Strong internal controls and audit readiness Improved budget forecasting and strategic allocation of resources Financial operations that empower program and leadership staff to make informed decisions Why the April Parker Foundation
