HERE The starting salary range for this position is $17.13 - $19.70, depending on qualifications This position is Essential and is required to report to duty before, during, and immediately after a civil emergency. Responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled professional, physical, labor-intensive work in various maintenance functions. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The following duties are illustrative for this position. Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations. Acts as a rod person on a survey crew. Assists in measuring distances with steel tape; sets up auxiliary electronic distance measurements; operates level rod to assist in determining ground elevations. Opens survey lines through bushes and trees to enable instrument technicians to see from point-to-point to allow measurements along the lines. Sets points in the ground such as stakes, pipes, and monuments. Carries equipment as required to support survey operations; loads and unloads equipment from vehicles. Cleans equipment and loads in assigned vehicle at the end of the workday. Digs and performs manual labor. Works under the direction of a Survey Instrument Technician. May be required to work hours other than the standard day shift. when an emergency occurs. Other duties as may be assigned. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. One (1) year related manual labor experience preferred. Possession of valid Florida Driver's License and maintenance of clean driving record required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Knowledge of tools and equipment required to perform duties. Knowledge of groundskeeping practices and principles. Skill in the operation and preventive maintenance of equipment and related tools. Ability to operate equipment required to perform duties. Ability to perform heavy manual labor under various weather conditions. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the public. Ability to focus on the positive in every situation. Ability to model respect for individuals, teams, and the organization. Ability to stay centered when challenged. Ability to establish and maintain the trust and confidence of the department and public. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to follow through with assigned tasks.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, and dig using a shovel. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Steel-toe or composite shoes are mandatory.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions that may be adverse and extreme (heat, humidity, cold, rain, etc.). The employee is frequently exposed to a construction environment, noise, dust, fumes, airborne particles, uneven surfaces, heights, and stressful situations.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Sick Time: FT employees accrue 8 hours per month PT employees accrue 4 hours per month

Retirement Plan: The City contributes an amount equal to 11.4% of an eligible employee's biweekly earnings into a 401(a) Defined Contribution Plan.
