Genesis Capital (the "Company") is one of the largest business purpose lenders in the country, focused on providing commercial real estate financing solutions to real estate developers who buy, renovate, and sell single-family and/or multi-family residential real estate. The Underwriter - Express Channel plays a critical role in evaluating and underwriting fix & flip, bridge, and construction loans, with a strong emphasis on asset-level risk analysis coupled with borrower-level credit underwriting. This role is best suited for a candidate who has deep familiarity with deal-level underwriting fundamentals and borrower credit analysis. A working knowledge of credit analysis is required, along with the ability to underwrite the viability and profitability of the real estate project and loan structure.
The Underwriter - Express Channel is expected to manage multiple loans daily in a fast-paced environment with a focus on speed, accuracy, and risk mitigation. This role requires strong cross-functional communication with Sales, Valuations, Construction, and Operations teams.
Principal Duties:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Evaluate borrower credit history to identify potential performance concerns.
  • Analyze renovation budgets and ensure alignment with market comps and borrower exit strategy.
  • Validate borrower experience and track record specific to investment assets.
  • Confirm eligibility against program guidelines and risk thresholds.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Valuations, Construction, and Operations to collect and verify necessary due diligence documentation.
  • Perform underwriting for RTL and fix & flip loans, including assessment of collateral value, scope of work, exit strategy, and local market dynamics.
  • Support deal flow by providing underwriting feedback to Sales for structuring and eligibility discussions.
  • Ensure compliance with Genesis Capital's credit policy, asset-level guidelines, and investor requirements.
  • Participate in pipeline meetings and provide underwriting insight to expedite processing and approvals.
  • Review and validate key title documents such as estoppels, title reports, and indemnities as necessary.
  • Manage a pipeline of borrower and asset underwrites within the Genesis Capital SOP's and service level agreements (SLA's).
  • Input underwriting information and data into the LOS and other systems with a focus on attention to detail.
Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum 5+ years in Commercial Real Estate banking or private real estate lending, in the form of underwriting, credit analysis or related experience.
  • Experience in fix & flip or construction lending is required.
  • Knowledge of real estate lending and loan structuring.
  • Familiarity with real estate markets, valuation methodologies, and investor exit strategies.
  • Understanding of borrower financials, credit risk, and KYC/AML compliance.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and pipeline management tools.
  • Experience with residential construction budgets, cost review, and timeline feasibility a plus.

Compensation Range: $85K - $125k/annual
