Description
WORK OBJECTIVE
Plans, organizes, implements, and supervises recreation programs for senior citizens such as social-recreation activities, arts and crafts, educational programs, and trips/excursions. Position will also work with other senior citizen agencies to act as an information clearinghouse for the community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The list of essential functions is intended to be representative of the work performed. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed if such duties are a logical assignment to the position. Develops, organizes, implements and evaluates programs, services, and special events that improve the quality of life of senior citizens throughout the City of Winter Garden. Performs need assessments through surveys, focus groups and evaluating trends. Consolidates information from community agencies and resources specific to the needs of senior citizens and utilizes that information to refer senior citizens to an appropriate agency for assistance. Develops program publicity, brochures, flyers, newsletters and news releases. Recruits, manages, and supervises volunteers or interns for the needs of senior citizen programming. Attends meetings as necessary relevant to senior citizen needs. Drives a 15 passenger van to and from various senior center activities and programs. Plans, assists, and completes duties involving other recreation programs, special events, light custodial and maintenance work, and recreation center coverage as assigned. Occasionally works a varied schedule which may include evenings, weekends and holidays as is dictated by the needs of departmental programming. Recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives and budget recommendations for senior citizen programming. Interacts in a professional and respectful manner with city staff and the public. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED. Prior experience working with senior citizens or leading groups of individuals in a recreational or social setting. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to use most Microsoft computer programs, email, and software unique to the City and to the Parks and Recreation Department. Must be proficient in basic computer use and able to learn new software programs with a reasonable amount of training. Possession of a valid class E Florida driver's license and ability to safely operate a 15 passenger van (training materials provided). Must have excellent customer service skills. Current certification in CPR or ability to obtain within six months of employment. Ability to lift objects up to 30lbs in weight and move equipment necessary to facilitate departmental programming and special events such as tables, chairs, or other equipment. Must be comfortable speaking in front of large groups. Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with co-workers and the public. Knowledge of the concerns, abilities, limitations, and interests of individuals over age 50. Ability to effectively research, plan, schedule, advertise, implement and evaluate a recreation program from start to finish independent of much supervision and direction from others. Ability to keep attendance, financial, and other records for the department and complete minor reports for dissemination to city staff members and the public. Ability to use common office equipment such as a computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine and other devices. Ability to handle cash transactions effectively and efficiently.
