Spare Service Technician

SUMMARY
This position is responsible to safely service parts for production activities to ensure maximum uptime using technical ability, experience, and knowledge. The main responsibility of the incumbent is to maintain the tooling utilized in the production of various manufacturing processes.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Plant 16 Servicing Functions Responsible for general machining of any repairs or adjustments needed to maintain production. Sharpens, maintains and services tooling, as required. Inspects, feels, and measures workpieces to ensure that surfaces and dimensions meet specifications. Studies blueprints or layouts of metal workpieces to determine grinding procedures, and to plan machine setups and operational sequences. Selects and mounts grinding wheels on machines, according to specifications, using hand tools and applying knowledge of abrasives and grinding procedures. Computes numbers, widths, and angles of cutting tools, micrometers, scales, and gauges, and adjusts tools to produce specified cuts. Dresses grinding wheels, according to specifications. Files or finishes surfaces of workpieces, using prescribed hand tools and methods (Polishing).
Tool & Die Maker Functions Following procedures, utilizes full technical ability, experience, and knowledge to safely manufacture and service dies, parts, and spare parts in a timely manner consistent with quality and SOP ("Standard Operating Procedure") requirements. Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts. Selects proper materials to be used including type of steel, machines, tooling, gauging instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauge blocks, comparators, etc.). Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations. Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining, as needed. Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder (precision grinding to include wet, surface, CNC, etc.), to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications. Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances. Makes allowances for shrinkage during heat treating of tools and metal flow in dies. Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part. Investigates problems that arise while performing a job and applies problem solving techniques to attempt to resolve problems, using assistance as needed. Maintains focus on productivity, maximizing uptime. Completes required paperwork accurately and efficiently to verify work. Properly tracks time worked using required methods and systems. Participates in training and cross training efforts, as assigned.

Maintains cleanliness of work area to meet JV standards. Reports any incidents that have occurred in a timely fashion and participates in investigations, as required (i.e. safety, spills, accidents, productivity/workflow). Makes suggestions, demonstrates a questioning attitude and is supportive and open minded to new and existing ideas/initiatives. Maintains positive and supportive employee relations through continuous communication with all colleagues. Filing, inventory, administrative, tasks, security, auditing, housekeeping, painting, inspections, telephone calls, ordering, shipping, training, mentoring, updating safety data sheets, and any other duties as assigned. Performs other duties and assignments, as deemed necessary, to support JV's dynamic business and operational needs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES
Education High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience
-3+ years of previous experience in a manufacturing environment. Must be able to meet knowledge and competency requirements below.
Technology -
Basic computer skills, including use and navigation of internet/intranet. Ability to learn basic use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to understand and apply appropriate usage of technology in a work environment including virus prevention. Ability to learn other technology related skills, as needed, to perform the essential functions of the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Advanced training or education in a related area. Previous experience as a tool and die maker or related trade. Previous experience in the tool and die industry.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is generally working within a temperature-controlled manufacturing environment.
Work week is a minimum of 40 hours (i.e., 8 hours per day, with a paid lunch). There is additional mandatory overtime as business and operational needs necessitate. Must be willing to work night shift, as assigned. Required reliable transportation applies to all shifts, as assigned. Required work hours, schedules and shifts are subject to change based upon business necessity.
This position is considered safety sensitive, due to operating heavy machinery and equipment.
Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
Noise level varies throughout the different work areas. Must wear appropriate PPE, as required, in work area(s).
