Job Description
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Director of Recruitment and Strategic Initiatives is responsible for the vision, strategy and execution of a comprehensive plan to recruit and retain Case Western Reserve University's undergraduate students. The director provides leadership to the offices of Undergraduate Admission, University Financial Aid, Orientation and New Student Transitions, and Enrollment Operations to implement the vision and strategy that enables the division of enrollment management to achieve enrollment and retention goals. The director provides leadership to foster collaboration within enrollment services and monitors the execution of the enrollment vision and strategy across the division to assure alignment with enrollment and retention goals. This position provides direct leadership to every staff member within the division to ensure alignment between action, effort and goal attainment. This position carries operational oversight to implement strategically planned adjustments in resources, workflow, staffing across enrollment management, so that departmental resources are being proficiently utilized to meet enrollment goals and service prospective students, current students, parents, alumni and college counselors. This position directly supervises the daily activities of the enrollment management strategic marketing staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Establish and sustain an integrated enrollment management philosophy across the individual units of the enrollment management division that positions Case Western Reserve University's enrollment management division as the preeminent enrollment operation amongst the top 40 national universities and top 40 national liberal arts colleges in the minds of all constituencies. (10%)
- Design and execute (through leadership and direct supervision) a comprehensive recruitment plan that achieves the enrollment goals set by the board of trustees, the president, the provost and the vice president for enrollment. The plan will be research based, evaluated consistently for effectiveness and measurable in its outcomes. This multichannel recruitment plan likely includes strategically managed interactions with prospective first year and transfer students as early as 9th grade, current students (especially first-year students), parents (both prospective and current), secondary school counselors and teachers and Case Western Reserve University alumni. Likely modes of strategic interaction include direct mail, email, Case Western Reserve University and third-party websites, social media, interviews, information sessions, campus tours, open houses, off campus hotel information sessions, off campus counselor breakfasts, counselor campus visit programs and strategic partnerships. The implementation of this plan consists of integrated, large-scale, long-term recruitment campaigns addressing every level of the student life cycle on behalf of enrollment management. (20%)
- Establish and monitor standards for the enrollment management staff to ensure all constituency experiences are consistent with the highest expectations surrounding the Case Western Reserve University brand. (10%)
- Lead the development of innovative strategies utilizing new technologies to ensure the highest level of student service and contribute to the university's goals of recruitment, retention and student success. Facilitate enrollment management leadership in the identification and implementation of technology to support the division's recruitment functions. (10%)
- Assist in recruitment activities as necessary, including conducting interviews, visiting high schools, attending college fairs and participating in on-campus programs. Travel responsibilities may include international travel. (10%)
- Maintain supervisory responsibility for all key strategic external recruitment partners. Partnerships might include expenditure of resources in excess of $1,000,000 for an individual contract. (15%)
- Advise the vice president for enrollment on the achievability of enrollment goals including, but not limited to, net tuition revenue (currently in excess of $110 million), discount rate, application volume, admit rate, academic quality, and retention. (5%)
- Advise the vice president and other enrollment management directors on matters related to public relations, image and enrollment trends. (5%)
- Develop and monitor the departmental budget of approximately $3 million dollars, aligning resource allocation with the division's strategic priorities and recruitment plan. (5%)
- In the vice president's absence, represent Enrollment Management offices on internal operational and administrative matters and policy-making university committees. (5%)
- Maintain knowledge of state-of-the art recruitment strategies, tools and techniques in higher education. (4%)
- Perform other duties as assigned. (1%)
Department: Contact with all enrollment management team members, especially senior leadership.
University: Contact with senior administrators including Provost and President, deans, faculty members and staff.
External: Key external recruitment consultants. Contact with prospective students and their parents/guardians, guidance counselors, university alumni, product vendors, media, writers, editors, photographers and designers.
Students: Regular contact with prospective students, student office workers, interns, tour guides and student ambassadors.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Provide direct supervision to three professional associate director and assistant director positions within enrollment management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: 8 years of progressive experience in admission or a related field required. Experience with undergraduate admissions CRM (Slate experience preferred). Significant professional work experience in admission with direct experience in undergraduate admission marketing and communication required. Significant exposure to undergraduate financial strongly preferred.
Education/Licensing: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred. US driver's license required.

- Knowledge of r ecruitment strategies, including prospective student management, marketing, and targeted recruitment efforts.
- Sensitivity to economic, cultural, and other differences relating to the challenges of enrolling students.
- Proven ability to work in high stress, accountable, deadline driven environment required.
- Working knowledge of print, electronic and social media production required.
- Working knowledge of website development and maintenance, database management, statistical data interpretation and application of state-of-the-art information technology as applied to recruitment programs.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Experiences with international travel preferred.
- Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest.
- Ability to meet consistent attendance.
- Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Office environment. Regular travel required. Nights and weekends are required.
Hybrid Eligibility
This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement up to two remote days per week at the discretion of the department. New employees may begin a hybrid schedule upon approval from the supervisor, successful completion of an orientation period and signing the remote work checklist certification form.
