In this role, you will ensure integrity in documentation and coding practices, contribute to timely and appropriate reimbursement, and support overall healthcare data quality.Key ResponsibilitiesAccurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnoses and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes for inpatient encounters in accordance with official coding guidelines.Maintain a minimum coding accuracy rate of 95% while ensuring compliance with DRG assignment, Present on Admission (POA) indicators, hospital-acquired condition (HAC) reporting, and severity of illness/risk of mortality (SOI/ROM) classification.Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) systems and computerized coding/abstracting tools effectively.Communicate professionally with providers for clarification and documentation improvement to support accurate coding and DRG grouping.Apply knowledge of 3M encoder or utilize ICD-10-CM/PCS codebooks as needed.Stay current with American Hospital Association (AHA) Coding Clinics, CMS updates, and hospital policies through ongoing education and coding compliance training.Respond to inquiries from the billing office related to assigned codes and documentation.Assist in other coding areas or perform related duties as assigned.Maintain active coding credentials (CCS, CIC) and demonstrate annual compliance.QualificationsRequired:High school diploma or equivalentCCS (AHIMA) or CIC (AAPC) certificationOR 2 years production inpatient coding experience with certification required within 1 year of hire1+ years of inpatient coding experience (2+ preferred)Advanced understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and acute care medical record reviewProficiency in abstracting data and applying current ICD-10-CM/PCS coding guidelinesDesired:Coursework in Anatomy & PhysiologyFamiliarity with CPT coding is a plusWorking ConditionsManual Skills: High level of manual dexterity and coordinationOccupational Risks: Some exposure to hospital-related occupational risksPhysical Effort: Medium to heavy - may exert up to 35 lbs.Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.Why Join Western CT Health Network?At Western CT Health Network, we are committed to excellence in healthcare delivery through a culture of accuracy, compliance, and quality patient data.
