About the Role

NYT Cooking helps you discover and cook the world's best recipes.

The NYT Cooking team is tight knit and interdisciplinary — we collaborate with our design, data, product, and editorial partners to prototype, develop and scale new features for both our responsive website and mobile apps. We are made up of small, focused groups tasked with building great cooking experiences on a variety of devices and platforms, including web, iOS and Android. You will report to the Engineering Manager for the Cooking Publishing team.

Responsibilities:

You'll work on our infrastructure and overall health of the Cooking platform, creating better tools that support other Cooking engineers who in turn support our editors and end-users.

You'll work with other technical partners both within the Cooking engineering organization and with other teams across The Times to support Cooking engineers in bettering the Cooking product for our end-users.

You will help create infrastructure and monitoring tools for our team and expand our backend.

You will help us automate our delivery pipelines and increase productivity across the board for Cooking engineers and technical contributors on other engineering teams.

You will help help create a new GraphQL backend and ensure performance and maintainability across our applications remain at a high standard.

Basic Qualifications:

2+ years of experience working with AWS, GCP or other cloud provider products and services

2+ years of experience using Kubernetes or similar container orchestration service

Experience with Docker or similar containerization service

Experience with Infrastructure as code tooling such as Terraform

Experience troubleshooting complex systems using tools such as DataDog, Sentry or similar monitoring services

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with automation, build tools and release engineering

Proficiency in CI/CD tools (Drone, GitLab, etc.)

Experience deploying and maintaining infrastructure to support large engineering teams

This role requires limited on-call hours. An on-call schedule will be determined when you join, taking into account team size and other variables.

The annual base pay range for this role is between:

$110,000 — $130,000 USD
