POSITION DESCRIPTION: Edward Waters University (EWU), Florida’s first independent institution of higher learning and the state’s first historically Black college or university (HBCU), invites applications for the position of
Director of Brand Management and Communications . The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker and creative storyteller who is passionate about shaping and elevating EWU’s brand identity. This individual will oversee university-wide communications, media relations, and brand strategy to enhance the institution’s visibility, reputation, and engagement with key stakeholders. EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field (Master’s preferred). REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in brand management, marketing, or communications, preferably within higher education or mission-driven organizations. Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills. Strong leadership and team management capabilities. Proficiency in digital marketing tools, content management systems, and media analytics. Ability to think strategically, manage multiple projects, and work effectively with diverse audiences. Passion for the mission of HBCUs and the values of Edward Waters University. RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategic Brand Leadership:
Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive brand strategy that aligns with the mission, vision, and strategic goals of Edward Waters University. Communications & Messaging: Lead the development of clear, consistent, and compelling messaging across all university communications, ensuring alignment across departments and platforms. Media & Public Relations:
Serve as the university’s primary media spokesperson and point of contact for media inquiries. Develop media strategies, press releases, and crisis communication plans. Content Development & Oversight:
Supervise the creation and distribution of multimedia content, including news stories, marketing materials, publications, videos, and digital assets that promote EWU’s academic programs, initiatives, and community impact. Social & Digital Media Management:
Oversee and grow EWU’s digital presence, including the university website and official social media platforms. Monitor performance metrics and leverage data to inform strategy. Brand Compliance & Training: Ensure institutional adherence to visual identity and branding guidelines. Provide training and support to departments on brand standards and best practices. Collaboration & Leadership:
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Enrollment Management, Admissions, Athletics, Academic Affairs, and Student Success, to ensure cohesive brand storytelling. Supervise communications and design team members.
