Position Summary
Directing EG America's merchandise sourcing strategies and conducting extensive category reviews resulting in improvements to overall profitability of the category. This review should evaluate opportunities to extract more value from our vendor partners through negotiations, evaluating product offerings to determine appropriate mix and/or if there are gaps, introduction of private label options, monitoring commodity markets, and capturing working capital opportunities.
Responsibilities
Merchandise Procurement Strategy Strategic Sourcing: Identifying and engaging with suppliers who can provide products that meet the company's quality standards and cost objectives. This includes negotiating contracts, setting terms, maximizing working capital and ensuring a diverse supplier base to mitigate risks. Strategic Leadership: Setting the strategic direction for the merchandise procurement function and aligning it with the overall business strategy of EG America. Team Leadership: Lead a specialized team in merchandise procurement to drive value and speed of results to achieve the annual goals set forth by the EG America leadership team. Collaboration and Communication: Working closely with other departments such as marketing, finance and logistics to ensure a cohesive approach to product assortment, pricing, and supply chain management. Category Reviews Market Analysis: Examining external factors such as market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive landscape. This helps in understanding the demand dynamics and potential areas for differentiation. Category Performance: Analyzing sales data, profit margins, and other key performance indicators to evaluate the health and profitability of the category. Supplier Evaluation: Reviewing existing suppliers' performance, including compliance with quality standards, delivery timelines, and cost-effectiveness. It also involves scouting for new potential suppliers. Product Assortment and Range: Assessing the product mix within the category to ensure it meets customer expectations and market trends. It may involve adding new products or discontinuing underperforming ones. Pricing Strategy: Analyzing the pricing structure in comparison to competitors and evaluating its impact on sales and profitability. Customer Feedback and Insights: Gathering and analyzing customer feedback to understand their preferences, satisfaction levels, and unmet needs. This can be accomplished through surveys, pilot testing, and other market data such as NPS scores. Risk Management: Identifying potential risks in the category, including supply chain disruptions, regulatory changes, or shifts in consumer preferences, and developing strategies to mitigate these risks. Sustainability Considerations: Evaluating the environmental and social impact of products in the category and exploring opportunities for more sustainable practices.
Working Relationships:
Collaborates across marketing, finance, supply chain, store operations, and related teams to align and execute category performance initiatives.
Requirements
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
Minimum Experience:
Over 10 years in merchandise procurement and category management, with a preference for experience in the retail sector.
Soft Skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Proficiency in merchandise procurement and category analysis. Strategic planning and process optimization skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Effective negotiation skills. Leadership experience with teams in procurement and category management.
Other Requirements
Travel:
Ability to travel independently 5%.
Hours & Conditions:
Monday – Friday 8 hour day in office setting
Physical Requirements:
Ability to maneuver and regularly lift and or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
