Aquatics Director - Wadsworth (Finance)

POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Aquatics Director will oversee the Aquatics Department and related programs, including Swim Lessons, Recreational Swimming, and Group Rentals, across all aquatic facilities at the Y. Responsibilities include leading safety initiatives, staff hiring, training, and supervision. The role may also involve serving as a program director for non-aquatics programs as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Hire, train, and supervise lifeguards, swim instructors, and other aquatic staff. - Plan, prepare, and deliver safe, quality aquatic programs for youth and adults. - Hold regular in-service trainings for all aquatic staff. - Assist with pool maintenance and repairs as needed. - Implement and enforce YMCA policies and procedures. - Assist in planning and preparing brochures and program/facility schedules. - Prepare, develop, and control the budget for the Aquatic Department. - Evaluate programs regularly, adjusting to meet community needs. - Support and collaborate with swim teams. - Develop a positive public image through innovative aquatic programs. - Maintain current certifications for self and staff. - Engage and support volunteer involvement. - Effectively solve problems with timely follow-through. - Develop staff schedules ensuring all shifts are covered. - Promptly respond to voicemails and emails within 24 hours. - Purchase equipment and supplies within the allocated budget. - Participate in staff meetings and association events. - Serve on the Director on Duty rotation. - Host quarterly First Aid/CPR certification classes. - Engage with members and program participants, collecting impact stories annually. - Ensure safety of staff and members, following federal, state, local, YMCA, and insurance standards. - Support and assist with other projects or activities, including the Annual Support Campaign. - Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred. - Prior experience in aquatics and supervision. - Strong interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills. - Experience in program development, volunteer work, financial development, and customer service. - Certified American Red Cross or YMCA lifeguard certification. - CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen certifications (preferred). - American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) or equivalent (preferred). - YSLI or WSI certifications (preferred). - Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification. WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to spend extended periods in the pool area, communicate verbally with groups and individuals, and perform all lifeguard skills. Ability to lift equipment and assist distressed swimmers. Sit or stand for long periods in warm, humid environments. Recognize distress signals and remain alert at all times.
