Job Description Job Description PURPOSE : The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) is responsible for strengthening and expanding philanthropic and general fundraising initiatives to support Siena Francis House’s mission. This includes cultivating and securing gifts from individuals, families, foundations, corporations, and other organizations for general operations, special programs, and capital projects. The CAO oversees all marketing, communications, public relations, and social media strategies and provides leadership to the advancement team. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Develop and execute short- and long-term strategies to achieve fundraising goals, including annual gifts, major gifts, planned giving, and capital campaigns. Implement a comprehensive annual development plan with defined goals, timelines, and responsibilities. Lead the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major and planned giving donors. Conduct in-person solicitations and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors. Oversee all organizational marketing and communications efforts to enhance visibility and brand recognition. This includes managing media relations, direct mail, email marketing, digital campaigns, newsletters, and promotional materials. Provide leadership to the communications, public relations, marketing, and special event functions. Build and manage a high-performing team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation. Maintain and grow a portfolio of 125–150 donors and prospective donors capable of giving $10,000 or more. Collaborate with internal departments to align development strategies with programmatic needs and organizational goals. Coordinate annual campaigns, donor engagement efforts, and special fundraising events to drive donor growth and retention. Work in close partnership with the Chief Executive Officer on strategic development planning and execution. Serve as a liaison to the Board of Directors on development efforts. Actively participate in the Development Committee. Manage all grant-related activity, including research, writing, submission, tracking, and reporting. Ensure proper maintenance of donor records and stewardship tracking in accordance with confidentiality standards and data management best practices. Supervise the development team up to 5 team members including conduct performance reviews and provide feedback, handle scheduling, time-off requests, and conflict resolution and lead hiring and training of new team members. The CAO collaborates regularly with the following departments : Finance :

Budgeting, grant tracking, and fundraising revenue reporting Programs : Gathering impact data and funding needs to support case development Operations : Coordinating events and organizational infrastructure for campaigns Human Resources : Staffing, training, and performance management for advancement team roles Executive Leadership : Aligning development with strategic and mission-driven priorities Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) The COA will be responsible for leading team performance. Team performance will be assessed based on the following metrics : Fundraising Revenue : Annual revenue goals met or exceeded across all fundraising streams Major Donor Growth : Number of new major donors acquired and current donors upgraded or retained Donor Retention : Year-over-year retention rate of individual donors Grant Acquisition : Total grants submitted vs. awarded, and funding secured Campaign Results : Performance and ROI of annual campaigns and special events Marketing Impact : Growth in digital engagement, public recognition, and media exposure Board & Community Engagement : Frequency and effectiveness of engagement with board members, donors, and local community stakeholders Qualifications and Knowledge : Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field 3–5 years of progressive experience in fundraising and philanthropic strategy Demonstrated success in major gift cultivation, annual giving, planned giving, and capital campaigns Experience with grant writing, reporting, and institutional funding sources Minimum 2 years of team management and supervisory experience Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and donor relationships simultaneously Skilled in CRM and donor database systems, as well as Microsoft Office Suite High ethical standards, discretion, and ability to maintain donor confidentiality Ability to motivate, collaborate and influence at all levels across the organization and in the community. Ability to build and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with a wide variety of people with varying backgrounds. Sound judgement, strong critical thinking and organizational skills, decisions-making abilities and a high attention to detail. Ability to develop and manage within a budget. WORK ENVIRONMENT : The work environment is primarily an office setting with typical temperature and noise levels. Occasional travel is required for donor meetings, fundraising events, and community visits to increase public visibility and deepen engagement. Flexibility is essential, including availability to attend events during evenings and weekends.
