Scope of Position The Community Engagement Coordinator serves in The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The Department of Community Engagement through actions and partnerships, co-creates a welcoming environment for all those who work, learn, engage with the Wexner Medical Center for care and live in the communities we serve. The Community Engagement team creates community trust and partnerships to advance that work, increase access to healthcare and close health gaps in Ohio. The coordinator will: Support and manage efforts to collaborate with community members and organizations to plan, develop, implement, and oversee programs and projects designed to evaluate and improve the health and well-being of communities in Central Ohio (Franklin and its contiguous counties). Connect and partner with communities in clinical, research and educational activities. Understand and disseminate best practices of community engagement. Including, but not limited to the National Institutes of Health and CDC's Principles of Community Engagement; Asset-Based Community Development; and collective impact. This learning should be constant an iterative as the field continues to adapt, grow and innovate. Maintain professional relationships with key medical center and university leaders, to be able to professionally share community insights and best practice Maintain professional relationships with partners in Central Ohio communities; to be able to professionally share OSU Wexner Medical Center priorities and strategies Partner with the James Comprehensive Cancer Center for Community Outreach and Engagement and The Clinical Translational Science Institute, as well as other Ohio State University Colleges and programs undertaking community engagement Assist with the implementation of "Impact 2035," the institution's strategic plan, and contribute to addressing health access for the communities we serve. Position Summary The Community Engagement Coordinator advances the mission of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center by engaging Ohioans to address health needs, co-create community solutions, and coordinate community partners, to create a healthier Ohio. The ideal candidate will have experience building trust and co-creating community solutions with the many communities that live in Central Ohio (includes Franklin, Delaware, Union, Madison, Pickaway, Fairfield and Licking counties). This position will be essential in implementing the Department of Community Engagement goals and a candidate should have a basic understanding of community conditions for health, health gaps and their impacts. A servant leader mindset and a passion for helping communities thrive is essential. . Minimum Qualifications A bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 4 years professional experience in community engagement, community outreach, community health work or community organizing OR 8 years professional experience in community engagement, community outreach, community health work or community organizing in addition to a High School Diploma or GED. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for programming and events is also required. Ongoing: Maintain proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat Track and report community impacts Stay updated with professional and educational activities in the field. Demonstrate flexibility in work hours to accommodate programming and events. Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion. The ability to remain calm when faced with deadlines and multiple priorities. Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to: Communicate clearly with customers and staff. Lift and carry objects weighing 50 pounds or less from one level to another.
