Weekend Circulation Assistant
Administrative Support Part time Compensation Grade: 4H Pay Type: Hourly Department: Circulation and Research Services Job Summary: Opens and manages the library building and circulation functions for Furman's three libraries during weekend hours, including patron assistance, supervision of student assistants, collection maintenance, equipment maintenance, interlibrary loan, PASCAL Delivers, and opening and closing of the libraries. Regular hours are Saturday and Sunday 10AM-5PM during fall and spring semesters. Schedule adjustments are required during exams or special events. Job Description: Responsibilities: Opens and manages Duke Library building on weekends; ensures that Maxwell Music Library and Sanders Science Library are opened and fully operational Supervises circulation procedures, including: Verifying patron accounts, check-in/check-out of library materials, renewing, placing/cancelling holds on materials Issuing library borrower's cards according to library policy, including verifying and creating accounts Determining when to override expiration date, library-use-only items, due date, etc. Stacks maintenance, including shelving items, shelf reading, and shifting Working with the Coordinator for Circulation and Research Services, participates in the student assistants program on weekends including: training, assignment and monitoring of specific tasks, evaluation, and mentoring Performs library opening and closing procedures Maintains library equipment including, printers, and microform reader/printers Assists patrons of the library by: Helping locate library materials Giving directions to other library locations on campus (Music, Science, etc.) Referring patrons to research assistance as appropriate Processes InterLibrary Loan borrowing requests during peak times Maintains the general security of public areas; reports maintenance problems to Facilities Services and security problems to University Police Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate with 1
2 years' experience in related field Ability to: Direct student assistants. Communicate policies, procedures, requests and information to patrons, students, faculty, colleagues, etc. Follow written and oral instruction Learn and use a variety of computer software, applications, and equipment used in the library system Preferred Qualifications:
Library work experience Associates' degree Supervisory experience Working knowledge of Alma, ILLiad, Odyssey, and OCLC's WorldShare database, as well as large-format and microform scanners Work Conditions:
Work takes place in an office environment Work may require some heavy lifting and movement of books and other library materials Work involves possible exposure to dust and mold Saturday and Sunday 10AM-5PM during fall and spring semesters.
