The City of Carson is seeking candidates for a part-time position with a salary range of $17.66 to $22.54 hourly. This position is located in Carson, California. The Position

Under close supervision, this role involves performing routine and repetitive manual duties on construction, maintenance setup, and repair crews. This includes observing safety regulations and performing duties in a higher classification as required. The work hours are from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday, subject to department needs. Essential Duties

The duties include: Loading and unloading heavy materials or equipment from trucks; digging and filling holes, trenches, and ditches; maintaining and repairing streets; operating automatic and manual digging tools; operating motorized equipment such as trucks and skiploaders or other power equipment of comparable size and complexity; servicing and lubricating motorized equipment; cleaning hand tools and work areas; diverting traffic using flags and barricades; and cutting down weeds in vacant lots. Maintaining grounds, medians, and outdoor landscaped areas including planting, cultivating, trimming, watering, and spraying plants, trees, and grass; operating various park maintenance equipment such as sprayers and mowers; making minor repairs to irrigation systems; diverting traffic using street cones to gain access to medians. Maintaining facilities and buildings including cleaning rugs, walls, floors, rest rooms, and office spaces; performing building repairs and construction work; working irregular shifts as required. Maintaining facilities including cleaning carpets, walls, floors, restrooms, and office spaces; dusting and polishing furniture, woodwork, and fixtures; vacuuming carpets; ordering and maintaining adequate supplies and equipment; preparing work schedules and providing work direction and guidance to Maintenance Aides to ensure timely completion of all setups and tear downs of Community Center events; inspecting custodial and setup work to assure standards of performance and safety are maintained; operating a variety of equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, carpet extractors, air lifts, etc.; training Maintenance Aides in safe and proper handling methods; maintaining related records and files; assisting in the selection of prospective personnel; and performing related duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you should have: Education and/or experience sufficient to assure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance. Some experience performing basic laboring work. Community Center requires two years of custodial and setup work, one of which must have been in a hotel, banquet, meeting room, or trade show facility. Knowledge of tools and methods employed in basic laboring work; basic operation of motorized equipment; provisions of the California Vehicle Code applying to the operation of vehicles on the highway; proper methods, equipment, terminology, and materials used in custodial work and physical setup for meeting room convention, banquet, trade show industry; health and safety regulations; cleaning materials and disinfectants used in custodial work; and record-keeping techniques. Skills and abilities to learn the operations of the department to which assigned; use tools and equipment with skill and safety; read and interpret blueprints; work from heights; understand and carry out oral and written directions; meet approved minimal physical and medical standards; demonstrate physical endurance, agility, and strength necessary to perform heavy manual labor; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Possession of a valid California Class III driver's license and must be insurable by the City's Insurance carrier. Working Conditions
