Pennant Services is looking for a talented law student to join its in-house legal department team for a legal externship. The externship is designed to develop the skills and abilities of future attorneys and educate them about the responsibilities of working as in-house counsel. Externs will have the opportunity to learn about Pennant's culture of CAPLICO and how the legal team furthers that purpose. Our externship program will expose students to the healthcare industry and allow them to obtain valuable skills while working under the direction and mentorship of licensed attorneys. Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct legal research projects on a wide range of topics such as: HIPAA, advanced directive, state and Federal regulatory and licensing compliance, Medicaid and Medicare issues, insurance coverage, employment law, professional liability, and contract law. Draft, review, and edit a variety of legal documents, including contracts. Assist team in updating and improving legal processes, trainings, and resources. Assist with management of medical and employment records requests and document subpoenas. Education and Experience

Currently enrolled in a graduate Juris Doctor law program at an ABA accredited law school. Must have successfully completed 1 year of law school by commencement of externship. Interest in healthcare, employment, or regulatory law is preferred. Competencies, Knowledge and Skills

Excellent written and research skills. Strong analytical skills to gather, organize, and summarize information. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Effective organizational and time management skills. Externships are unpaid and applicants are subject to and must pass a background investigation. Working Conditions

General office environment; may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Time commitment expected is 35 hours per week for 8 weeks (Summer). Location in Eagle, Idaho, but flexible work schedule is available.
