Thornton Tomasetti is seeking an energetic MEP engineer or technical architect with at least 2 years of experience to work with our team of sustainability and resilience engineers and architects to implement energy efficiency projects. We're looking for someone who is curious, collaborative, and technically strong. Our team helps design teams, developers, and owners deliver high-performance, low-energy buildings, campuses, and infrastructure. With a holistic approach to energy and resilience planning, we develop innovative solutions that create lasting value for clients, communities, and the environment. Responsibilities
Collaborate with colleagues to provide innovative sustainability, resilience, and energy efficiency solutions. Develop and run shoebox and full-building energy models using EnergyPlus and Honeybee/OpenStudio across diverse building use types and in a range of climate zones. Assess renewable energy potential at individual sites and at master planning level. Evaluate energy conservation measures including envelope performance improvements, HVAC zoning, HVAC heat recovery and lighting controls. Support the development of Climate Action Plans, Clean Energy Master Plans, and Decarbonization Plans. Perform spreadsheet-based calculations of potential energy savings opportunities for projects at the planning stages and for policy development. Communicate results with high quality graphics and cohesive written reports and recommendations. Review LEED credit documentation related to energy performance. Work with a multidisciplinary team of design professionals. Interface with clients and attend meetings. Requirements
Bachelor's or post-graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Science, or Architecture with EIT credentials, or related field. Experience with fundamentals of HVAC systems, operations and controls. Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills. Experience in energy analysis, modeling, and energy code compliance using Energy Plus, OpenStudio, IES. Knowledge and implementation of energy conservation measures in buildings. Experience with BPDA Article 37, NYCECC, energy modeling for LEED, and/or CA Title-24 is a plus. Knowledge of Radiance and Ladybug is a plus. Proficiency in MS Office, Excel, Adobe InDesign, Rhino, AutoCAD, and Revit. Compensation
The rate for this position generally is $84,000 - $97,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee's pay history will not be used in compensation decisions. Benefits
