Financial Power Trader Sr

The Financial Power Trader Sr will oversee and execute CPS Energy's financial power hedging program and is responsible for buying and selling financial energy products, optimizing the company's energy portfolio, and managing risk within the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) wholesale energy market. Grade: 18 Deadline to apply: 8/18/25 Tasks and Responsibilities

Develop and manage financial power hedging program guidance, policies, and procedures. Monitor power hedging program performance and provide routine reports to leadership and governance stakeholders. Execute or direct execution of physical and/or financial power transactions in the ERCOT wholesale market. Monitor and manage counterparty or market credit instruments and mitigate financial exposure risk. Monitor market conditions and execute power hedge strategies in accordance with approved hedging program requirements. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of ERCOT wholesale market impacts and forward power hedging opportunities and risks. Support strong external relationships with qualified trading counterparties. Analyze market conditions and implement strategies to improve portfolio's financial position and to mitigate portfolio risk. Analyze short and mid-term bilateral transactions as needed to manage physical and financial positions. Develop and implement strategies to maximize profitability of generation assets and reduce the overall cost of energy supply for our native and wholesale customers. Identify and analyze all relevant weather, market, and operational conditions within the CPS Energy service area and the ERCOT Wholesale Market to support all responsibilities. Coordinate activities between various CPS Energy stakeholders, including fuels, risk, compliance, settlements, and real-time operations to ensure effective communications and strategy implementation. Adhere to all internal Energy Supply & Market Operations (ESMO) policies and procedures. Adhere to all internal Energy Market Risk Management (EMRM) policies and procedures. Minimum Skills

Proficient experience in commercial asset management, commodity risk management, or trading experience in power or natural gas markets. Understanding of marketing or operations in the ERCOT Wholesale market or related experience in other Electric RTO/ISO regions. Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling. Ability to perform data analytics to support the optimization of power hedging activities. Critical thinking skills with ability to work independently at times. Must have favorable driving record. A bachelor's degree in engineering, marketing, economics, power technologies, business, or related field or relevant work experience in lieu of college degree. Working Environment

General office environment with the ability to sit for long periods of time. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Occasional travel away from the San Antonio area for periods of up to a week or longer to attend training sessions or other business-related events. Occasional visits to all areas of the power plant site may be required. This position will be required to support a 8-hour, 5-days per week work schedule. Must be able to respond during times of market emergencies or off-normal procedures. Physical Demands

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.
