Department: Circulation Services Time Type: Part Time FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Description: The Circulation and Course Reserves Student Assistant supports the operations of the Circulation and Course Reserves team at the service point and ensures the organization and maintenance of the University Library's physical collections, including (but not limited to) books, periodicals, newspapers, media, technology, and lockers. Summary: The Circulation and Course Reserves Student Assistant supports the operations of the Circulation and Course Reserves team at the service point and ensures the organization and maintenance of the University Library's physical collections, including (but not limited to) books, periodicals, newspapers, media, technology, and lockers. Responsibilities: Helping users with the check-out, return, and requesting of library resources. Maintaining user records and providing users with request status information. Educating users on how to use resources such as the catalog and their library accounts. Providing preliminary research help using AU Library Search and library databases. Monitoring Click & Collect requests and preparing items for pickup. Processing item requests for users and other departments, including Course Reserves. Helping users access individual viewing stations to watch physical media items. Shelving, retrieving, shifting, and transporting books and other materials as requested. Keeping collections organized and searching for misplaced and missing items. Helping with inventory and collection management projects such as shifting, straightening, and moving items. Maintaining consistent, proactive communication with supervisors in person and via Microsoft Teams and email. Working on other assorted projects as assigned by supervisors. Using a variety of software, including: Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Teams, Excel, Word), Springshare products (LibStaffer, LibCal, LibGuides), and library management systems (Alma, ILLiad). Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Part-Time. Minimum 12 hours a week (with at least 16 hours of availability). Willingness to work at least one weekend shift, one opening shift that starts as early as 9AM and/or a closing shift that can end as late as 10PM. Expected to work through finals week. Salary Range: $17.95 per hour. Required Education and Experience: High level of honesty, integrity, and confidentiality, including handling sensitive user information and monetary transactions. Excellent customer service, collaboration, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail, a learning mindset, and the ability to be engaged and prioritize and effectively multitask in a fast-paced work environment. Workflows and procedures are often updated, so flexibility is key. Ability to lift books and push carts. Other Details: This position is available only to enrolled American University students.
