Translations Manager, Bible Lesson Products
The Translations Manager for Bible Lesson Products manages the translation and editorial preparation of all non-English editions of the Christian Science Quarterly, ensuring the faithful rendering of the Bible Lessons for audiences around the world. The Translations Manager participates in developing and executing the strategic vision for non-English editions of the Quarterly, enriching all aspects of readers' connections and experience with the Bible Lessons. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Manages the translation of nine non-English Quarterlies published by CSPS.
Manages translation process, team structure, and personnel to ensure harmonious, accurate, and punctual translation activity. Evaluates and processes translation solutions. Works with the Proof Room and Design services to harmonize translation and production work. Engages with, evaluates, and proposes new translators. Develops and maintains BLP translator guidelines and training materials. Provide administrative and logistical support related to translations.
Participates in BLP translation-related activities, communications, and strategy development.
Fosters collaboration and communication with other departments on translation related goals and activities. Works with translators and the interdepartmental Translations Group to maintain language-specific standards in orthography and typography. Works with other departments to establish translation standards and methodologies.
Staff Management and Job Contacts: Reporting Relationships: Supervisor: Associate Product Manager. Supervises: None. Regular Contacts: Has regular contact with freelance translators, licensees, BLP staff, and internal departments. Job Requirements: Education/Experience: Must have a college degree and at least 35 years of experience working with translation projects or in a related field. Managerial and publishing experience a plus. Knowledge/Skills: Humility, patience, grace, warmth, flexibility, enthusiasm, eagerness to learn. Absolute ability to maintain confidentiality. Strong organizational skills and adept at managing multiple tasks. The incumbent is a global thinker familiar with cultures outside North America and has a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with non-native English speakers. Fluency in a language other than English is a plus. The incumbent is culturally sensitive, possesses solid interpersonal skills and can foster and nurture strong working relationships. Must be a self-starter who can work independently as well as part of a team. Must have a deep love for the Pastor and the Bible Lesson and a clear understanding of their unique place in the Christian Science Movement. Technology Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Apps is required. Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, Indesign, and Plunet is a plus. Work Environment: A fast-paced, metaphysically-focused department with a deep affection for subscribers on a global scale. The buoyant, tight-knit BLP team is a small group with a large mission. Team members are dedicated to perfection and a prayer-first approach, undaunted by change and challenges. The incumbent must be flexible, highly disciplined, and self-motivated, yet able to work as a team member with others on the BLP staff. This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) position on-site in Boston. Christian Science Information: Mother Church membership and Primary Class Instruction are required.
