Barnard College seeks a strategic and technically fluent Digital Director to oversee the College's digital communications ecosystem, leading website operations, guiding platform evolution, and managing social media strategy. This role requires fluency in both technical systems and communications strategy. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on web management skills with high-level digital vision, and will hold vendors and internal collaborators accountable to clear goals, timelines, and performance benchmarks. Reporting to the Senior Director of Public Affairs, the Digital Director will partner closely with Barnard's IT team and web vendors to stabilize and optimize the existing Drupal-based infrastructure, while preparing the groundwork for long-term modernization. That includes leading a full content and structure audit to streamline current digital assets. The Digital Director will also supervise social and digital staff, ensuring content aligns with brand voice, messaging priorities, and accessibility best practices. Serve as the operational and strategic lead for Barnard's website, including maintenance, performance, and vendor oversight. Partner with IT and Communications leadership to evaluate long-term platform needs, including the possibility of bringing site operations in-house or selecting a new vendor. Lead a comprehensive content and structure audit, overseeing the removal of outdated pages and preparation for future migration. Manage vendor relationships and hold vendors accountable for performance, updates, and deliverables. Supervise the social media manager and digital associates, ensuring integrated planning across platforms. Collaborate with the editorial and design teams to ensure digital content aligns with the College's brand and messaging. Monitor analytics and performance metrics and implement improvements based on data. Skills, Qualifications & Requirements: 7-10 years of experience in digital strategy, web operations, or digital communications Experience managing complex websites and vendor relationships Demonstrated success leading platform transitions, website relaunches, or large-scale digital cleanups Strong project management skills and experience coordinating across IT, communications, and vendor teams Technical fluency in web content management systems, analytics tools, and accessibility standards Experience overseeing or supporting social media strategy within an institutional or mission-driven context Collaborative leadership style with the ability to support and train others across the organization Familiarity with higher education or large non-profit communications environments strongly preferred This job is currently a hybrid position and may require a presence in the office up to five times a week, including for team and full staff meetings and other times as directed by the supervisor. Salary Range: $95,000 - $105,000 annually.
