Instructional Strategist
RSU 21 serves 600 employees and 2400 students across three communities and has an annual budget of $52 million. As an instructional strategist, you will collaborate with teaching staff, administration, and district instructional strategists to provide high-quality educational experiences and support our district mission and strategic plan. As an instructional strategist you will: Establish a culture for ongoing instructional improvement Locate resources for teachers to support instructional improvement Establish clear procedures for teachers to gain access to instructional support Collaborate with teachers in the design of instructional units and lessons Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness Support the MTSS-A (multi-tiered systems of support, at KHS) Coordinate, lead, and improve International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement programming Reports to: Building Principal and Assistant Superintendent Qualifications: Love what you do, and the opportunity this position presents
especially your ability to shape and drive a high-performing instructional climate and culture dedicated to improving student outcomes. Bachelor's degree or higher; valid Maine teaching certification or eligibility for endorsement required; Master's degree in Literacy and/or Mathematics preferred. Responsibilities: Assist teachers in the development and refinement of curriculum, including associated formative and summative assessments Coach teachers in examining and implementing effective teaching strategies. Collaborate directly with administration and teachers to plan, organize, and facilitate district MTSS activities, including all procedures, strategies, and implementation. Work with school MTSS teams to establish and refine decision-making rules for determining when students need interventions (strategic and targeted) Work with school MTSS teams and administrators to establish and refine data collection, analysis, evaluation, and reporting processes Support administration to train building teams in the MTSS process and assist schools with implementation of interventions. Carry out needed research and study to gain full working knowledge of MTSS and its benefits to academic achievement of students at risk of academic failure participate in MTSS team meetings Develop further strategies for progress monitoring for all students at the secondary level Collect and analyze school data for school and district level reporting Provide technical assistance to schools in the interpretation and use of student data Align intervention guidelines with current curriculum as needed Develop expertise in facilitating effective meetings, providing results-oriented staff development, promoting collaborative team processes, supporting PLCs and coaching teams through conflict Serve as International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Coordinator Work with IB teaching staff to develop and refine curriculum, including the incorporation and consideration of the IB "Approaches to Teaching" and "Approaches to Learning models" Act as CAS coordinator Identify and assist Extended Essay Coordinators Manage the registration of students for IB testing Manage budget Appropriately train staff in developing content Work with the IB community, including the members of GIBS, to stay abreast of issues or concerns related to IB Work with administration to educate the students and community about IB and its advantages Coordinate and supervise the IB assessment process, including the uploading of internal assessments and any arrangements for external assessments (including any special arrangements) and on score release day in July Coordinate Advanced Placement testing Provide direct instruction for students Ensure adherence to state and federal guidelines (i.e. MTSS/RTI, FERPA, IDEA) Perform other duties as assigned Competencies: Change agent mindset: you see education as a relentless effort towards improving students' lives; you believe in your ability to make a difference, and inspire others to believe the same; you are not satisfied with the status quo or "the way things have always been done"; you see education as a pivotal driver of opportunity Student-centered: you keep student's needs central to every action you take and decision you make; you never lose sight of students' needs as the district's focal point and North Star Collaborative nature: you comfortably give, receive and incorporate feedback; you don't take criticism personally and you absorb feedback effectively; you enjoy contributing to a shared vision; you pride yourself on personal growth and on helping others grow; you're comfortable with and adept at navigating a diversity of personalities and work styles Flexibility: you are open-minded and open to change; you embrace new initiatives and adjust team approaches in the face of new evidence, new mandates, or new goals; new directions and new solutions excite you Strong communicator: you teach compellingly and commandingly; you listen actively and question liberally; in written and verbal communications and instructional presentations you articulate clearly, powerfully and with self-assurance; you exude leadership, control and focus; you hold an audience's attention with your presence Highly responsive: you are flexible and able to adjust when faced with unexpected, real-time problems/distractions that demand attention; you seize teachable moments to maximize student attention and learning; you can deal with the unexpected, without derailing well-thought out plans, by thinking quickly on your feet and staying focused on big picture goals Relationship-oriented: you recognize the deep importance that relationships with colleagues and stakeholders play in our work; you build rapport and trust with others; you're comfortable with and adept at navigating a diversity of personalities and work styles Lifelong learner: you are committed to continuous self-improvement; you self-reflect on your personal effectiveness routinely; you value continuous improvement to drive consistent high-quality output and growth Reasonable Accommodations: RSU 21 will provide accommodations to an individual with a disability, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or applicable law, who has made the district aware of their disability, unless doing so would cause an undue hardship to the district.
