Job Description Summary

The Office of Student Orientation and Transition is a high-impact office that creates an introduction to the University of Maryland community for new students and their families. As students transition to their new academic environment, the office provides guidance on their educational journey through programming and coursework to prepare them for success on campus and beyond. The Director is responsible for developing the vision, strategic direction, and leadership for the Office of Student Orientation and Transition. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (a) collaborating with partners across the university to develop and administer summer, fall, and spring family, transfer, and freshmen orientation programs; (b) providing responsible financial oversight and budgetary balance; (c) managing the day-to-day operations of the office of professional and student staff; (d) developing and administering innovative transition courses and the associated teaching assistant program; and (e) serving as the public face of the office to build dynamic partnerships internally and externally. The Director reports to the Associate Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Studies, and is a member of the Dean's Administrative Council. Physical Demands Work is performed in a busy office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and oversee orientation programs set up and break down as needed. Requires the ability to communicate in writing and verbally to a diverse group of stakeholders. Must be able to travel around campus for meetings and orientation programs. Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Ten (10) years of experience in higher education. Five (5) years of experience supervising or managing professional staff. Knowledge of best practices in program management and administration. Knowledge of best practices in supervision and staff development. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws. Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community. Additional Job Details
