Food Services Manager Opportunity
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Food Services Manager position for the Birmingham Area Command located in Birmingham, AL, working full-time. Schedule/Hours: Typically, 5am to 1pm, but hours may vary depending on the needs of the department. This position is responsible for: Planning, coordinating, participating, supervising, and evaluating the day-to-day operations of the Birmingham Area Command's Center of Hope food services program; plan and develop menus; purchase food and maintain an adequate level of inventory for the program needs; administer a food budget; ensure the food service program operates in compliance with health department standards and regulations; supervise, schedule, evaluate, and participate in the work of kitchen personnel including cooking and serving of meals. Key Responsibilities: Plans, schedules, assigns, participates, and supervises the work of subordinate personnel; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with recipes, quality standards, and health regulations. Participate in interview process of Food Services staff cooks and kitchen assistants and conducts performance evaluations; approves time cards and requests for time off. Ensures that all staff obtain and maintain their Serve Safe Food Certifications as required by laws. Participates in inspections and audits by the Health Department, Veterans Administration, and other agencies as it relates to the Food Services Department. Plans menus and purchases food and supplies necessary for the preparation and serving of nutritional meals. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to cook, taste, and smell food. Duties are usually performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting.
