Role of the Position Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Digital Services and Solutions, the Student Workforce Development Coordinator oversees the development and execution of educational and workforce development initiatives for student employees within UNLV Information Technology (IT). This position will lead the creation, implementation, and evaluation of learning content designed to support student employees across various IT domains. The coordinator will collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to define learning outcomes, develop training materials, and design micro-credentials and digital badges that recognize skill mastery. Additionally, this role will collaborate with UNLV Career Services, IT, and Central HR to expand workforce development initiatives to include establishing mentorship programs, creating a structured off-boarding process to prepare students for post-graduate employment, and strengthening engagement with the Clark County School District (CCSD) to build a seamless pipeline from high school to college to career. This position will be instrumental in expanding the reach of the Student Workforce Development program to other areas of UNLV IT, ensuring a comprehensive and structured approach to student employee training, mentorship, and career readiness. The coordinator will work with campus partners to organize events to enhance student engagement and prepare students for transition into post-graduate employment opportunities. The Student Workforce Development Coordinator may travel for outreach and engagement events, and occasional evening and weekend commitments will be required for student activities. This role will collaborate with the IT Senior Budget Manager regarding program expenses and budget needs. In addition, the Coordinator may oversee student workers who help support training, assessment, and workforce development initiatives. Minimum Qualifications This position requires an earned Bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Workforce Development, Information Technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the following: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in curriculum development, training, or workforce development or equivalent educational experience in a classroom setting. Experience working with Learning Management Systems (LMS). Experience in student mentorship or workforce training programs. The following experience is preferred: Experience working with CCSD or similar K-12 educational institutions. Experience in micro-credentialing or digital badging initiatives. Previous experience in career readiness and off-boarding initiatives for students. Experience using Canvas. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge Required Strong understanding of curriculum development, instructional design, and training methodologies. Knowledge of digital credentialing and micro-credential programs. Familiarity with workforce development strategies and student engagement techniques. Experience working with K-12 education, particularly CCSD, to establish partnerships and engagement programs. Preferred Knowledge of adult learning theories and competency-based education models. Understanding of workforce trends and emerging technologies in IT and education. Familiarity with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) best practices in workforce development and student engagement. Knowledge of grant writing and funding opportunities for workforce development initiatives. Awareness of industry-recognized certifications relevant to IT student employees (e.g., CompTIA, AWS, Google IT Support). Skills Required Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) for course creation and management. Strong program management skills, including strategic planning and process development. Experience in mentorship program development and management. Experience delivering, planning, and coordinating workshops and other workforce development activities. Preferred Proficiency in instructional technology tools beyond LMS (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia). Experience using data analytics to track student workforce development outcomes and program effectiveness. Strong facilitation and public speaking skills for delivering workshops and training sessions. Project management experience to enhance strategic planning efforts. Experience developing partnerships with external organizations to support workforce development initiatives. Abilities Required Ability to develop and implement assessment tools to evaluate program effectiveness. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with university departments, students, and external partners. Preferred Ability to advocate for student workforce development initiatives at the institutional level. Ability to design innovative career readiness programs that align with industry needs. Ability to adapt training programs to different learning styles and skill levels. Ability to implement scalable training solutions that can expand to other areas of UNLV IT. Ability to navigate institutional policies and procedures to streamline workforce development efforts.
