The Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County is seeking a candidate for a position with a salary of $39,535.00 annually. The job is located in Athens, GA and is full time. The job number is 2024-1102 and is within the Public Utilities Department, specifically in the Meter Management division. The purpose of this job is to perform manual functions associated with installation, repairs, and maintenance of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) water meters and other AMI infrastructure components. Duties and responsibilities include participating in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of all AMI infrastructure components; responding to complaints concerning water leaks, low pressure, and high bills; operating and maintaining equipment; and performing additional tasks as assigned. Minimum training and experience required include a high school diploma or equivalent with one year of experience involving water meter installation and repair, or mechanical experience. A valid driver's license is required, and the candidate must possess or be able to obtain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License within 6 months of hire. A Confined Space Entry Certification is also required within 6 months of hire. Essential duties include the repairs, maintenance, and installation of commercial and residential AMI water meters, including " through 8" meters, collectors, and all other AMI infrastructure components. The candidate will also be responsible for operating and maintaining AMI meter testing software and equipment, responding to complaints regarding water pressure, high bills, water leaks, and other related problems, and performing other duties as assigned. Supplemental information includes the physical requirements of the position, which include the ability to operate a variety of machinery and equipment, including a backhoe, dump truck, forklift, front-end loader, boom crane, and more. The candidate must also possess knowledge, skills, and abilities in various areas, including communication, language, intelligence, numerical aptitude, form/spatial aptitude, motor coordination, manual dexterity, color discrimination, interpersonal temperament, and physical communication.
