Jefferson Parish Civil Service Engineer Intern
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF SEWERAGE. This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST JEFFERSON vacancies in various Departments as they occur. For the current vacancy, employee in this position will work under the supervision of the Assistant Director of the Department of Sewerage. The job duties include the performance of professional engineering work of considerable technical difficulty and variety; including the planning, development, and direction of all conventional aspects of engineering projects. Areas of assignment include, but are not necessarily limited to, drainage, sewerage, water, streets, and general engineering. Performs tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the Department of Sewerage. Assists in planning for improvements and maintenance to the wastewater system through the development of design plans, review of system changes, and the analysis of data for recommended improvements. Designs and/or reviews engineering construction drawings and specifications on wastewater collection system projects involving improvements to the existing system and new development proposals. Will be responsible for work in hydraulic modeling, pump selection, GIS, AMMS (computerized maintenance management system), work order systems, and computerized databases (MS Access). This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference. Current registration as an Engineer Intern with the Louisiana State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. If Engineer Intern registration is in another state, must obtain Louisiana Registration within six months of employment. Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate. Leave accrual rates increase with years of service. Any unused annual leave is usually paid upon separation from Parish Employment. Retirement Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees' Retirement System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with 10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service. Tenure Payment Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year. Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid. Deferred Compensation Plan(457b plan) Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to defer up to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings. Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination without penalty. This plan is provided by Nationwide Retirement Solutions 1-877-677-3678. Special leaves of absence for military service, maternity leave, etc. may be granted in accordance with the Personnel Rules.
