Manatee County Government is hiring for a position in the Public Works Engineering division. The salary range is $27.61 - $52.17 hourly. The job is located in Bradenton, FL and is full-time (hourly). The position number is 25-00495. Work Location: 1022 26th Avenue East, Bradenton, Florida 34208 Work Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 4:00 pm Expected Starting Hourly Range: $27.61 - $43.47 Performs engineering duties related to area of assignment, including construction plans, applications, permits, and inspections. May oversee road, traffic, drainage, utility, or electrical engineering projects requiring advanced knowledge of the specialty area. Position has considerable contact with County officials, contractors, engineers and other professional contacts and requires excellent public relations skills. Note: Position level and salary will be dependent on qualifications (DOQ). Working Conditions: Typical indoor office environment. Periodic outdoor field work required, possibly in adverse weather conditions. Sitting for long periods of time, working on computer. Lifting equipment or supplies up to 25 pounds alone and up to 50 pounds with assistance. Position requires visual acuity and depth perception, as well as ability to hear and identify sounds. Essential Functions: These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position. CIP Design & Review Division-Transportation Section As an Engineering Specialist I-SR DOQ (ENGR) in the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) Design & Review Division you will provide engineering design and drafting services for the conceptual and final designs of Manatee County capital improvement projects utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D and other software under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer. Depending on area of assignment within the Transportation, Structures or Utilities Sections of the Division, you may be assigned projects related to roadways, intersections, sidewalks, drainage, bridges, culverts, potable water, wastewater, and reclaimed water utility systems, and various other infrastructure systems. Other duties may include research, conceptual development, design review, inspection, permitting support, cost estimating, shop drawing reviews, and other job-related tasks as assigned. Engineering Specialists assigned to the structures section will also perform bridge inspections that require visual and physical inspections, measuring, and taking photographs on, under, and around the structures that involves getting under the bridge, possibly in shallow water. This position may also include opportunities to provide engineering design and drafting support to other departments within the County. Assists in or oversees the coordination of County-wide drainage, traffic, or utility studies. Works with consulting engineers on development of these studies. Reviews and makes comments and suggestions regarding implementation of new regulations by the County and State pertaining to drainage, transportation, and/or utilities. Researches, prepares, and/or reviews construction plans, applications, and permits for transportation, utility, or electrical construction projects. Inspects construction for compliance with specifications and codes. Reviews and researches development projects for compliance with the Comprehensive Plan, Land Development Code, and County design standards. Reads and interprets complex engineering plans and specifications. Conducts engineering research, field studies, inspections, and plan evaluations. Performs or assists in the performance of complex engineering designs. May provide testimony for public hearings. Aids in the preparation of staff reports. May research, prepare, and/or review applications for concurrency and supporting traffic/infrastructure analyses. May direct, oversee and plan activities of technical staff assigned to the unit (which may include technical training). May aid in the preparation of construction plans and specifications for road, drainage, traffic, utility, and electrical construction projects. Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required. Minimum Qualifications

Valid driver license required, with valid Florida driver license required within 30 days of hire. A comparable combination of education, training, and work experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Engineering Specialist I: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering field. Prior related engineering work experience, engineering internship, or Engineer-in-Training certification highly desired. AutoCAD experience desired. Engineering Specialist II: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering field. One or more years of engineering experience related to area of assignment or may accept Engineer-in-Training Certification in place of one year of related engineering experience. AutoCAD experience desired. Senior Engineering Specialist: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering field. Three or more years of engineering experience related to area of assignment or may accept Engineer-in-Training certification in place of one year of related engineering experience. AutoCAD experience desired. Prior supervisory experience desired. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Engineering Specialist I and II: Good knowledge and understanding of survey notes reduction and aerial photography. Good knowledge and understanding of utility, hydrologic analysis, structural, traffic or roadway design. Senior Engineering Specialist: Excellent knowledge and understanding of survey notes reduction and aerial photography. Strong ability to perform utility, hydrologic analysis, structural, traffic or roadway design. All Levels: Able to prioritize tasks, deal effectively with competing and changing priorities, and meet deadlines. Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized. Able to resolve situations and problems of a nature and complexity commensurate with experience. Knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job responsibilities, commensurate with experience. Knowledge and understanding of computer systems and software applications required to perform job duties, commensurate with experience. Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills in order to interact professionally and effectively with staff, contractors, engineers, the general public, and other stakeholders.
